The little number next to my orange circle under my name. It doesn't seem to change, I don't know what it means, there's no explanation when I hover it, and it doesn't seem to have to do with either my orange (replies) circle or my gold (badges) circle. I seriously don't know what it is and I wish it would go away.

My understanding of that number is that it is the total number of badges you have available to you to give away. You earn the badges when your wheel is full and starts again. The wheel fills up magically according to some algorithmic alchemical formula. I like that number. I don't want it to go away! Someone wiser than me will confirm or deny my guess.

Denied. It isn't the total number of badges one has available to give away, but the total number of badges one has earned to give away. That sounds confusing probably. Take me for example. My number there says 12. The wheel has gone around 12 times and I have earned 12 badges to give away, BUT I have ALREADY bequeathed some of them so it does not reflect how many I have, still, to give away. If I click my username, it will say badges given 9 of 12. So, it would seem that I have 3 badges to give away. Hope that settles it.

Yes, that's it. Thanks for the clarification. The total number of times the wheel has gone round.

Now what is the the number on the other side of the badge picture? Is it the number already given away or the number received from the community for being brilliant (or fun, or funny, or inspiring or idiosyncratic or whatever motivates people to bestow badges?)

My guess is that it is the number received? Clarification please?

damn straight. number of badges bestowed, by an admirer, for awesomeness.

Confirmed, but in no way am I wiser than you. -is that an Oxford comma?

Thanks, I didn't catch the "to give away" part, and I appreciate the correction. In my defense, I did forego the claim of "wisdom".
