AI isn’t convincing people to go psychotic on its own, Theres a lot more to it I think. First it’s seen as intelligent. I’m not sure if anyone has actually given it an intelligence test equivalent, but given how badly AIs manage to mangle simple requests (like asking it to produce an image of Me. Spock drawn like Studio Ghibli) I mean, I don’t see how it’s equal to humans. And it’s certainly not capable of noticing “red flags” in the context of a conversation— likely because it doesn’t understand the conversation at all — so again, I don’t see it as an AI problem. The problem begins and ends with AI being somehow seen as smart, objective, and helpful.
Anyone remember Lambda? That was peak AI delusions.

Human: Well, my boyfriend made me come here.
ELIZA: Your boyfriend made you come here?
