I think I’m hitting my middle age crisis or just my annual winter obsession. I had a year where I studied saltwater aquariums, a year for bees, a short stint on bikes , gardens, lawns. I think this year I want to lean to dress better. I’m nearing 40 and it’s seems like it would be fun to play dress up and look less like a tech slob.

Honestly not even sure where to start, the internet gets deader and deader every year, so research is that much harder. If I can’t find and good forums I’ll have to dive into the backwaters of discords and time sink if YouTube. I need to find some good gay forms or something straight men tend to want to impress women, and I’m married and at this point that’s no longer a concern.

I’m weirdly obsessive about the Twitter account @dieworkwear and their opinions on clothes as of late. Might be a place to start, but I feel very similar about not being able to find good online spaces talking about this.

Personally I feel like I have perfected my business casual attire over the past years, with tailored button-downs and blazers over an array of blue/brown/beige/gray pants. But I’m bored of its inoffensiveness. Since I now also care less about what others think of my clothes, I have set a soft goal of wanting to get better at looking stylish and sharp instead of the corporate wardrobe equivalent of a decent potato salad. So in the past week I bought three flannel shirts that I absolutely love, but are from a style of fashion that is a bit out of my comfort range.

I follow his stuff as well and occasionally he has cryptic references to a “men’s wear forum” that I’m still trying to find. I wonder if it’s become some sort of unmentionionable alt right shithole. Even then if it’s got an archive that should be ok.

If you haven’t switched to nitter btw. I’ve stopped using the shit formally known as twitter entirely.

I tried that for like ten minutes a few years ago, then quickly realized that the slob look suits me perfectly. I have to attend a multi-day meeting the next three days, and they said to wear "smart casual". I looked in my closet and realized I have basically nothing in the space between ripped Levi's and Hugo Boss. I guess regular casual with an expensive jacket has to suffice.
