I read this damn article and it nearly broke me.
Saw this at Target yesterday. Sent a picture to a friend, who insisted it was shopped.
So I sent him the Friends playset next to it.
My wife pointed out that nobody under the age of 35 is going to have any interest in Seinfeld. It went unsaid that nobody over the age of 35 should really have that much interest in Lego? I mean, you do you obviously but I mean.
There's an article I hated at the time but can't find now that pointed out GenX's Adbusters/NoLogo culture was very much a reaction to the debased marketing culture of the '80s while Millennials' "I have a Hufflepuff tattoo" culture is very much an embracing of said-same. Street cred for being able to identify every merchandising totem in the Nerdly Hallows is a sign of a crushed culture cherishing their defeat. My god. "lego batman movie game" should be a word list on Family Feud, not a Warner Brothers property but here we are.
but god the form it takes sometimes.
Seinfeld sucks. Fight me. Beyond that, though, we've got:
- a dude with a masters degree from NYU
- who has lived with a roommate for ten years
- who is blogging for a Jewish website for a living(?)
- who lacks the skillz to find Seinfeld streaming or the budget to buy it for $20 a season on Amazon
- whose essay on "growing up with Seinfeld" got him into NYU
- who took seven days to put together a 1300-piece, $80 Lego set
- badly.
And I'm sure this is not the future he envisioned for himself. Its not the future his parents envisioned for him. 44 credits at $1800/credit is $80k in tuition to blog about Legos because they're tangentially Jewish, I guess. It's also enough to open a Subway. Make lemonade, right?
This is a dude with all the resources, all the love, and none of the future and holy shit fam the tip of the iceberg is fuckin' bleak for me today.
My legos explored strange new worlds. They were one Yellow people and they all loved it. Now they come with a Rachel haircut.
Men yaqinda https://mostbetclub.top/ dan foydalanishni boshladim va uning jonli efir xususiyatidan hayratda qoldim. O‘zbekistonda jonli sport tadbirlariga kirish qiyin bo‘lishi mumkin, shuning uchun bu xususiyat katta afzallik hisoblanadi. Bir vaqtning o'zida jonli sport o'yinlarini tomosha qilish va pul tikish imkoniyati umumiy tikish tajribasini yaxshilaydi. Oqim sifati yaxshi va men tikayotgan o‘yinlarga real vaqtda kirish imkoniyatiga ega bo‘lish juda yaxshi.
If it makes you feel any better those sets were the last sets in stock around Christmas. There may be a market for them but it’s not huge. Meanwhile my 4 year old and I are going to be building this awesome set https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-creator-31109-pirate-ship-review/ which I’m super excited about because of all the creative choices and possibilities. Probably one of the best sets of last year. It’s not all doom and gloom but some legos suck and some people just fail at life. That being said we’re building legos instead of going to school because school has failed into Covid. We’re shut down for the week but I think it’s probably closer to a month. I’d try to buy my way out of it but private isn’t doing much better and it’s damn near impossible to hire someone. So I’m stuck. Luckily I saved a ton of vacation and my work is really flexible, but weekends are 12/hr a day grind. I never did understand why anyone would want to run or own a subway. It seems like a shitty existence akin to being a Uber driver. Independent sandwich shop, coffee stand, sure but subway hell no.
LWTech's "hell week" activities included a pajama party and the Taj Mahal sitting out in the cafeteria for everyone to build on which (A) still kinda infantilizing but (B) considering how much Running Start that school does like half of their students are under 18 anyway and in my opinion a little loving and cuddling is entirely appropriate when you have more "duck'n'cover from the shooters here's how" posters up than "fire exit" posters and you've got a goddamn food bank. I'm not anti-Lego. But I think we can all acknowledge that there is no alternate universe in which Lego comes out with a "Facts of Life" playset with a tiny Edna Garrett and survives until 1989. The amount of nostalgia available and culturally acceptable to Millennials is, in my opinion, the sign of something deeply unhealthy. My kid's school is kicking ass but yeah - it's $12k a year and 150 kids. My kid is thunderously independent, my sister's kids require you to point a laser in the corner for them to jump at or else they claw the furniture. I don't think it's gonna matter soon. I think it's cynical AF that the Biden administration is throwing free masks and tests out there that will show up riiiiiiiiiight as the peak starts to recede and probably go away forever. They'll claim victory against the ocean because the tide is going out. You own a Subway because it makes you $40k a year. Kid's got a friend who lives in a $3m house. They're Persian and their source of income is 22 IHOPs. I doubt they eat at IHOP much but damn if their doorway don't look like a Westin. I wouldn't own a Subway either? But I'm at the tender age where $80k for a journalism degree or $80k towards something else is gonna be "something else" if that "something else" has even a razor-slim profit potential.
