I've been giving them money under the assumption that if they say they'll shut down if they don't get it, they'll shut down if they don't get it.

It is... unseemly to triangulate from "we have a third of a billion dollar endowment" to "we're doomed" particularly when there are countless ventures more in need of support.

I've been donating to Wikipedia for about ten years now. Never fuckin' again. Fuck 'em.

I've donated to them monthly now for ... what? ... a decade?

It's fine by me. Someday they won't have any more money. And the $3 or $5/mo I give them staves off that future a bit, and maybe gives them the freedom to do more than their core mission. Heck, maybe even innovate.

Good. I'm glad they have oodles of money in the bank. Good people doing good work never have that luxury, and I'm all-in on a future where that is no longer the expected norm.
