Armenia is winning the twitter war from my feed. It seems that Azerbaijan was the aggressor. Both sides have many grievances. I hope the Russians don't come in and solve everything in an inequitable manner, or there will be more conflict.
As an Armenian, I appreciate going on Hubski and seeing this. My family is in Stepanakert where the Azeri artillery landed, they all evac'd and drove a few hours out of the way safely. My uncle was on his way to Belarus for vacation this morning and was told all adults under 55 years old are to stay in place in event of re-conscription if they're not already currently drafted. I can probably contribute a lot of different articles and information for exposition on the subject but I just hopped on to say thanks for the coverage. It's hard to find accurate reportage from internationally recognized news outlets, and if I post an objective (if still inaccurate or shallow) Reuters or BBC report on my personal social media I get flamed for being a turncoat and not recognizing an attempted reanimation of the Armenian genocide :[
Turkey's F-16 fighter downs Armenia's Su-25 from Azerbaijani territory — Yerevan](https://tass.com/emergencies/1206495](https://tass.com/emergencies/1206495)) Turkey supplying close air support for Azerbaijan is not a good look for a country that refuses to acknowledge all the Armenian blood on its hands. This could turn into Yugoslavia II because fuckin' hell what country doesn't want a good old-fashioned Smurf helmet military adventure right now to distract the homeland from all the shit we're mired in... mk I keep trying to fix the link and it keeps readding it over and over...I get flamed for being a turncoat and not recognizing an attempted reanimation of the Armenian genocide :
Turkey bussing Syrian jihadi's in doesn't seem like a very responsible thing for a NATO member to be doing. I've seen a few truck loads of gunmen allegedly from Turkey heading to the front on Twitter (it could be footage from the 80's for all I know). The little Republic of Artsakh seems to be fucked and is mostly what this part of the war is about? I think? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Artsakh They have a pretty neat flag. Maybe someone else has been following along and can help fill in blanks.
Erdogan is pretty much banking on "They'll never kick us out of NATO." They are dix. Fundamentally they're experiencing a currency crisis (the lira has lost 2/3rds of its value since 2016), a legitimacy crisis (the supposed coup attempt hasn't been resolved) and a border crisis (the Kurds and Rojavans refuse to die while the Syria-Turkey-Russia triangle just gets dumber and more expensive). This has led to all sorts of wild-eyed performative proxy warfare. It's a pigfuck.
Russia isn't into this, and I think that's why it will end soonish. It's the Caucuses, If Russia gets to swing it's dick anywhere it's here. They have good relations with both sides but seem to favor Armenia a bit. Azerbaijan has a bigger better military but the ground is a defenders dream. Anything the Azeris's take will be taken at a high cost and it will be a slow grind. I think Azerbaijan wanted to test the waters and see how all the players would react. If the Turks poke their heads into the conflict too much Russia will start applying pressure, either here or somewhere else. The Turks can't really afford too much additional pressure. This is my best guess of what's going on how things will go.
