I'm going to keep posting this.
I deal with the public and most days I don't see anyone wearing a smart watch. I see more fit bits than I see smart watches. The biggest fit bit fans seem to be senior citizen women. I don't know that apple can poach them or even wants realizes they should. I see more people playing Pokemon Go a week than I see people with smart watches. Almost everyone who has one on, who I've chatted up about it says they got it as a gift. They don't seem super excited about it. Maybe Apple is winning the smart watch war but it doesn't seem like a very significant victory. I know more people who want a 160 Gb IPod than I know people who want a smart watch, but they don't make real IPod's anymore.
My Garmin watch is probably considered a smart watch. If it wasn't a fitness tracker, I wouldn't own it. I find the smart functions handy but not necessary. It can be handy to look at my wrist to see what a text message is. I think it's telling how little demand there is that Garmin is the number two manufacturer.
