What's your weapon of choice?
I play a Fender Tele, Highway One. I wish I had a Gibson Les Paul. I had one prior to going to college but had to either pawn it or move back to MI. I think I chose wisely, but someday.....
The strat can create a huge variety of sounds, which is one of the reasons why it is so popular. Above all, however, the biggest reason why Strats, and fender guitars generally are so perenially popular is that they are way less expensive than Gibsons and they are just about indestructible. If you look at a Gibson the wrong way, you need to take it to a tech. Fenders can be thrown in the back of the van in a gig bag, bounce around in the back until the next town, then get hauled out, plugged in and be mostly in tune. You break the neck? bolt on a new one, string it up and you're good to go again. Wiring's messed up? take off the pick guard and shove a new pickup in. Fenders are workhorses, infinitely customizable, and pretty hard to kill. My weapon of choice is an Epiphone Jack Casady Electric bass for when I play rock, and an Upton "Brescian" model 5 string bass when I do everything else.
I've just started playing a guitar, only 2 months ago. After some reading (and checking out what guitars the musicians I like use) I decided on a red Fender Jazzmaster. So far I love it!
That's awesome! My favorite guitarist is a big proponent of the Jazz Master. Enjoy Your axe and good luck in your learning. I've been playing for 25 years, best thing ever.
I see he collaborated with Thurston Moore. That's one of the guys I like really much.
I had to sell most of instruments through the years sadly, but my favorite guitar I've ever played was the gibson es-335. A (pipe) dream of an instrument to own, my friends dad had one and it's warm sound and smooth bridge made me fall in love with it, geez it's been 10 years since I've played it and I still think about it.
I have a Mexican made Stratocaster and I love it, though someday I really want to own a Jaguar.
A Godin Session Custom. I love it. Even the gimmicky-sounding active electronics on it are great.
Nice. I have a Godin bass that I use quite often.
