Landlord is threatening to sue us for December's rent. We have no legal ground to stand on but it's bullshit because he's the one breaking the lease at the beginning of the year. We had to jump on the place we found because they go fast around here. Now we're gonna have to pay $700 for an empty apartment. Going to spend the month flushing babywipes down the toilet. Merry Christmas Mr. Scrooge!
Most areas of the country have free legal services for tenants. If not, there are plenty of resources online. I wouldn't be so quick to assume you have no legal leg to stand on. Most landlords will operate under the assumption that the tenant won't take the time to pushback. Push.
Thanks man. We might go that route. If it were just me I'd tell him to piss up a rope but Kate wants it over with. I'm not too worried about it. Our new place is awesome!
That sucks. Hopefully thenewgreen's advice helps, if it doesn't maybe you could let some homeless person live there temporarily so they have an opportunity to get back on their feet?
I like this. I like this a lot. We're downtown and I get hit up for help at every corner. Just take one guy I feel I can trust aside and give him the key. Leave my air matress and some blankets. "Have a month out of the cold, friend."
A better (?) -- more feasible -- step might be to post around on your location's reddit, craigslist, whatever stuff like that you have access to, looking for someone who's in desperate straits for whatever reason and really just needs a roof for a couple weeks. Grabbing the nearest homeless guy might accomplish the same thing, but it might not work well. If you can at least get a friend of a friend or some slight personal connection, it'd be safer and easier. Just a thought.
As someone else on this thread already said it's because things aren't going as planned. Obviously one would be quick to point out that life likes to take plans and throw them into a black hole rendering them useless. Now things going as planned would be some optimistic hippie BS so we can't have that. You have to struggle and pick yourself up (if you have nobody to help you) because otherwise you won't be able to have success in life. Because god fucking forbid I don't have one fucking break in my life because that is considered too much to ask for and is considered to be whining and useless. You would think that after a lot of work, tears, and dedication would mean something. But nope! The moment that something goes wrong it all goes to waste and you might as well have not done it in the first place. Yeah this sounds defeatist as fuck but man sometimes a break would be nice but nah fuck him, its "building character". At least I have something that I could put down in my college essays.
Welcome to Hubski and here's to hoping you catch a break. Life can certainly be a grind and there's no doubt that these "breaks" come in ebbs and flows, sometimes with seemingly no rhyme or reason to them. I've been in an "ebb" of late so the following advice is for myself as much as it is you: "Go make something."
I hope you get a break soon, it sounds like you could really use one regardless of your responsibilities, I don't know your exact situation but everyone deserves a break eventually, without being considered whing and useless. :( I noticed your account is 6 hours old, It's probably a throwaway but if it isn't, Welcome to Hubski! :)
Thank you. It isn't a throwaway and I actually had an account beforehand but it was being really personnel so the username name was really identifiable for irl. Thanks again
Because I'm realizing the magnitude of my student loans and figuring out what I can do to pay them all off in 5 years, starting in July of 2015. Bleh. I need a personal financial guru to tell me if my current plan is unfeasible or not. Edit: Cousin is a Certified Public Accountant and great with this stuff, but him and his wife are also expecting their first child over the next couple of weeks, followed by Christmas and New Years and I'm freaking out 2nite.
