It's the summer. I know that officially because I got this shirt:
One down, 12 more to go. Yaaaay...
Anyways, we all have summer albums, and it feels like every summer has music attached to it - mine for 2013 was Random Access Memories and Endless Fantasy. So what's your favorite summer music? What do you think will be your album(s) of the summer this year?
kleinbl00 introduced me to Cayucas and I've been rocking out to that on the sunny days. -Get the album it's all good summer ear candy. Also, I dig this song a LOT for the summer time car ride situation: You can't go wrong with Discovery's song Swing Tree on a nice day. SO GOOD. I like this song anytime: The Silver Jews "People": Oh, here's another goodie to get you going on a nice day... Spoon "Don't You Evah" Or Vampire Weekend, "Unbelievers" Maybe the best summer song on my list is Vetiver's "Can't You Tell" -Great tune: But if you've come this far perhaps you can hear one more from me. Sufjan Steven's "Chicago" is just a fun tune any time of year, but it has such a big epic quality that I think you could start a big summer journey out by listening to it: Go do great things. Enjoy the tunes :)
This has been asked before btw, several times I think. But it's a good question and a fun exercise. My guess is that peoples answers are always different anyways but wanted to share the old post with you.
For summer songs, so much of it has to do with memories, so sorry I'm doing this to you, but I'm going to have a trip down memory lane at your expense. For instance, Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden is not most people's immediate choice for a summer jam. But I have memories of driving in my shitty little Hyundai Accent, 3 of my best friends crammed in, with my cd player patched in to my radio via one of these bad boys, all of the windows down, volume cranked, as we drove to the beer store to get some Labatt Genuine Honey (its only virtue was being less bad than other buck-a-beers). Stuff like this is my high school summers condensed. I knew it was bad then, I know it's bad now, and i still don't care. I still scream these lyrics out loud. Then I met long-time bandmates, who introduced me to the Misfits (or alternatively, this ). Along with bands like Alkaline Trio, these guys never fail to make me feel like I'm an angry 19 year old kid. When I washed up in Newfoundland for university, I traded those tunes out for things like this and this, and this. I was swimming in a sea of depression at that point (I hadn't gotten help yet), and folk music felt like rediscovering my own history and ancestry. I moved to Ottawa to finish university, and worked in warehouses over the summer. Dvorak kept me company in my car on the way, and while I was in the warehouse there was a playlist of about 20 songs that repeated over and over every shift. I definitely remember Alice Cooper's Poison, as well as a few songs that were pop music so bad that it doesn't even make it onto mainstream radio. I can't even find them on youtube they're so bad. Now I'm here in Ohio, about to head back to Ottawa for a summer of musicmaking. Right now it looks like Dallas Green and Lorde are going to be getting some heavy listening in my car, but who knows. thanks for the memories, even if they weren't so great.
This is a classic summer song, for me at least. Also, this one was the soundtrack to my life last summer.
thenewgreen i know the chances of this are basically zero, but i have to ask: Will you be around Chicago early-mid october? I've got some pretty cool news.
I head back to Michigan often and could potentially be in Chicago around then. My entire extended family (like 50 people) all live in the Ann Arbor area which is just about 4-5 hours away. What's shaking? It'd be great to meet ya and a Chicago Hubski meet up is certainly over-do.
That's awesome! Two great bands, that'd be a fun show. When you get dates, let me know and I'll see what I can put together. -I'm glad you guys are playing.
October 16th or 17th is what it will be. We are just waiting for final confirmation from their management at this point. We also have a headlining date in August, but i figured the most efficient/fun use of your trip here would be to see Foxygen again, also. Anyway, i just wanted to throw that out there. I remember you missed us at SS and you like Foxygen, so i thought if by some alignment of the stars you were in this area by then, it would be a nice way to kill two birds with one stone.
Hey T-Dog, hope you are doing well. I just finished listening to this interview of Jeff and Spencer on Sound Opinions and was thinking about you and your upcoming show in Chicago. I'm bummed because I will not be able to attend. Later that month I'll be seeing Wilco in Raleigh NC. You ought to get your band on the bill :) You and the band have a place to crash at any time. Anyways, just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you/Blisters and I'm bummed I'll miss that show. I hope there will be other Blisters shows as well. As you know, I'm a fan and I'd love to check you guys out live. I hope all is well. You ever figure out how to import tracks to protools?
How cool! I'm in, my guess is that there are a bunch of us Hubskiers that would be down. -I'll buy the tickets, don't expect any special treatment but would love to meet ya pal! I'm excited for you guys and look forward to the show!

Off the top of my head, just vague, whispy rhythms and a sense of positive space Legendary Jamaican producer Lee "Scratch" Perry gets weird:
John Lennon's liberating hit and fun music video (includes butts):
That Meters song is sweet! Digging listening to it right now, thanks.
Ganshat - Unexpected Sunburn Vol 2, Vol 3
Got a few summer anthems: (1) Major Lazer's Get Free (2) Underworld's Scribble (3) Peter Bjorn and John - Nothing to Worry About
They actually just came out with a new album ("new" as in a year or two ago..., but quite new relative to that song). Pretty good too! It's on Spotify.
