I think I've been here for about 3/5 of a year now. Wowza. That's the longest I've ever actively commented on a forum-type site. Reddit, which will probably be most other people's answers. I think it was one of those cynical, circle-jerky "what do you hate most about Reddit?" askreddit posts. I only lurk on Reddit. I hate its community but pick the right subreddits and you can get some solid content/news. I clicked the link, didn't expect I'd be here for very long, but this community interacts with people the same way I like to do so. And its built in such a way that low-effort content is abolished. And most importantly it let me post my own content without getting put on a stake. Good combination of stuff. I mentioned it to my friend and my roommate. Both called me a "hipster" for being here. Guess they heard about it before but didn't want to use it? Fine by me, the longer I stay here the less I want people I know in real life to know about it.
Glad you found us 8bit!And most importantly it let me post my own content without getting put on a stake.
-I truly think that this is one of the largest differentiating factors about Hubski. I find it obnoxious that original content is vilified on other forums. The world needs content creators! Luckily, our set up allows for those that overtly "spam" to be ignored/muted etc. I mentioned it to my friend and my roommate. Both called me a "hipster" for being here.
-HA, that's hilarious to me. It's interesting to hear how we are perceived outside of our walls. ine by me, the longer I stay here the less I want people I know in real life to know about it.
-I hear you, there are definitely people I don't want to be on Hubski. When I mention it to friends or family, I am pretty selective about who I invite. Still, there are certain people that I really try to get here only because I know they'd be a good fit.
Yes, the same thread that led me here too :) I don't think I told many people about Hubski, I'm not sure i'd want people I know in here (Although I was surprised when I noticed a guy from my class back in CEGEP started following me here. I'm not sure he knows it's me and he mostly lurks but that was a strange "the world is so small" moment) I told my boyfriend about this place, but I don't think he gets it. He likes to joke about how I spend my time on a website with 20 users. I do try to recommend the site to people I meet while traveling. I'm not very good at selling it yet tho, I'll have to practice.
Did I ever send you stickers? If not, PM me and I'll get you some. It helps with the evangelizing :)I told my boyfriend about this place, but I don't think he gets it. He likes to joke about how I spend my time on a website with 20 users.
-That made me laugh out loud. Tell him he should join so we can have 21 users.
I think I came from that reddit thread as well. I do tell people about hubski, but I'm selective about it. I got my girlfriend to make an account, but she wasn't really into it. I also tell friends and family if I think they will "get it." In fact, a couple days ago I was talking to a friend on Facebook who always asks interesting questions in status updates, and he seemed open to hubski, but our conversation also got a lot of attention from our mutual friends. In the future I'll have to be more careful with my pitching strategies, I don't want to accidentally dilute the community here.
