Edit: insomniasexx has a Spotify playlist of music from these threads that's available on Spotify.
I just discovered him for the first time this week and I absolutely love what I have heard so far. I cant wait until midterms are over so that I can make my way through his stuff on spotify.
I listened to #thebeatles a lot this weekend. Mostly Revolver.
Growing up it was the White Album. It was the first Beatles album I had and I listened to it every day for a year straight; many, many, many times a day. I suppose it changes now, but I would say that I have a tremendous amount of respect for Revolver. Given the time it came out the material is just fantastic. I know that a lot of people point to Rubber Soul as their transition point from poppy-dance-love music to music to be listened to, and it's true. They were heavily influenced by Dylan and you could tell they were doing something that was new to them. -Not new to music though. I think on Revolver, you get them doing many things that were new to popular music entirely. What about you?
It feels disingenuous to call these my favorites, when I have a feeling the list is such because of volume of listening during my childhood, but I guess it has to start with Rubber Soul. Greatest album ever made, not a bad song on it, not even close to a bad song, also has three or four of the best "ballad-pop" songs ever written. Second place to Sgt. Pepper's. Incredible album, built off Revolver but didn't get into the White Album territory that turns off casual fans. Revolver is probably a close third; if it was an album of whale noises plus For No One it would still be a close third ... Help! and A Hard Day's Night get a pass, I guess, because they don't feel like albums -- not too many albums from 1964 sound like albums -- but I probably listen to them more often than I do the above because of their singles. A Hard Day's Night is probably the best easy-pop album ever, unless Help! is. Now I've got to go outside because it started raining, so Please Please Me and Abbey Road et al. will escape mention, which would really hurt my family if they knew. Luckily I don't talk to them, so they don't.

Any family that passionate about the Beatles is surely worth talking to, no?
It's been a music-heavy week for me. A mix of old favourites for long hours at work and ambient stuff for writing. 1. A Simon and Garfunkel Playlist, but mostly Bridge Over Troubled Water
BOTW is my favourite Simon and Garfunkel album. I still come close to tearing up every time I hear The Only Living Boy In New York, Paul Simon's tribute to Art Garfunkel. Sincerity is a rare emotion to find today, when irony is glorified and friendships have fallen prey to depersonalization. In addition to this, probably my favourite track of theirs along with the masterly The Dangling Conversation, the album has other great songs such as Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Boxer, Cecilia, and the haunting closer Song For the Asking. 2. Tom Waits - Closing Time, especially I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You Again, a lot has been said about Pre-Kathleen Brennan Tom Waits, Post-Kathleen Brennan Tom Waits, Tom Waits in general. Once again, its the brazen sincerity of this album that gets me every time. 3. The Monks - Black Monk Time Man, these guys were punk waaaaay before punk. I put this album on after years a couple of days ago and thought, and you think you have a shitty job. Picks - Monks, Boys Are Boys and Girls Are Choice, Higgle-Dy Piggle-Dy, Oh How To Do Now, Complication 4. Barn Owl - V Solid dark ambient. It would be best to listen to this as an album, no picks, nothing. 5. KTL - V
Again, solid dark ambient. Same as above, best as an album, no picks, nothing. Oh alright, Phill 2 is my favourite. 6. This playlist Hey simplexia, if you can hear me, great playlist. edit: Extra brackets on links, no idea why.
I've been listening to some of Eminem's stuff. I haven't heard it until recently, so I decided to check it out. I found I didn't like all of it, but there's some really good songs. And I really respect the guy after learning about him, his views, and what he's been through. So, some of the songs I like: Not Afraid Rap God And some stuff from Bad Meets Evil I've also been revisiting Fort Minor. Again, I don't like a majority of their stuff, but some songs I really like.
Pusha T - My Name Is My Name and some Clipse. Pretty good stuff.
Komm susser Tod is one of my favorite songs ever. You da best.
You've obviously never played Majora's Mask or Link's Awakening. Clocktown Day 1 - Majora's Mask
Ballad of the Windfish - Link's Awakening (and the brawl version)has some of the best music in the entire Zelda franchise.
I've been listening to Yeezus again, and I'm still loving it. If you told me a year ago that I would have had Kanye on repeat I'd be giving you some pretty strange looks, but I'm really digging it. Also been going back with Daft Punk, Homework is such an amazing album and I don't believe that it'll ever get old.
i can't. stop. listening. to in the aeroplane over the sea (the entire album). neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea / the king of carrot flowers (all parts) / two-headed boy are favorites. oh my gaaah. next time NMH is around i'm so down. ALSO. lorde is freaking fantastic and i'm addicted to ribs. for full effect, listen to this in your car or with headphones on. amazing 360/binaural riffs that you can't feel with tinny laptop speakers. lastly, i got back on p!atd. yeah, i know, don't laugh at me. something about pop-punk was really appealing to me, so... my favorites off of fever you can't sweat out (right now) are but it's better if you do -> i write sins not tragedies. listen to it in that order, g-reeeat transition. yeeeah. good music week!
In prep for my radio show, I found out that Together Again by Janet Jackson sampled Bridge Zone from the 8-bit version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Dat chorus...
Something tells me I'm not Ariana Grande's target audience, but I don't care because this song is catchy as hell.
I've been listening to Madonna - Holiday which is sampled to brilliant effect in The Avalanches - Stay Another Season.
