Guy flew too high to the sun. Should have have known to skipped town before it came crashing down.

Do you have a real point to make, or are you just being an asshat for the hell of it?

If they're going to do this, they better put heavy regulations on the banking fees.

Hell  ·  3252 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why do you think vinyl is making a comeback as a form of media?

There is always going to be a market for physical representations of art, whether that's a painting, photograph, sculpture or music. This is why cassettes and records are having a renaissance. CDs are physical too, but the music is still a digital 'intangible' file. Vinyl is based in physics, cassettes are analog tapes.

For the same reason why when you go to the museum, you'll look at a painting anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. You could see the same painting on your phone, but close it before really taking anything in. Owning a physical thing is a different experience from purchasing a tune online, which will look no different from the other tunes that were pirated.

Will it last? I think the cassette thing is a fad. Vinyl might stick around a bit longer. Digital is pretty much the best it's going to get. 48K 24B Stereo or Multichannel .wav, anything more than that and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who can tell the difference. They might make better algorithms to make their file sized smaller, but why? HD space is becoming an issue of the past. Digital has peaked.

If I were to guess for what's next, somewhere is going to invent a superior vinyl, a physical representation of music that has a better lifespan and occupies the same frequencies as digital. It will be large enough to allow for beautiful artwork but thin enough to store with a bin of others.

Racism eh.

The attacks seem to be coming from the Chinese government itself, with the intent to force GitHub to remove the GreatFire.org program, which is used to allow Chinese citizens to mitigate the national web censorship.

My girlfriend asked me if I knew what circumlocution meant from a book she was reading, we had to look it up.

cir·cum·lo·cu·tion ˌsərkəmˌləˈkyo͞oSH(ə)n/

~ the use of many words where fewer would do, especially in a deliberate attempt to be vague or evasive. "his admission came after years of circumlocution"

synonyms: periphrasis, discursiveness, long-windedness, verbosity, verbiage, wordiness, prolixity, redundancy, pleonasm, tautology, repetitiveness, repetitiousness "when you've finished your circumlocution, maybe you could just get to the point"

Well, this only applies really to institutional investors, but when you invest in a company by purchasing stock you can gain control of that company through votes.

Speculation in gold or bitcoin doesn't do that.

That photo is not very appetizing.

You're jobless because you're bitter and blame your faults on others instead of dealing with the real problem.

Hell  ·  3434 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: CEO of Apple Coming Out: Does it Matter?

So another way to put it is... If no celebrities or CEOs came out ever, would we be as open as a society towards homosexuality? Ellen, Elton John, Anderson Cooper... all straight, or presumably so. I can't see a situation where in this hypothetical world, it would be easier for gay people to live openly.

I think it absolutely makes a difference. It is sad that they have to, and it's sad that is a newsworthy event when they do come out, but it is necessary.

Hell  ·  3446 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Cuba, you owe us $7 billion

Tides rise, borders change, powers rise and fall. It's the cost of doing business, the risk offset by the potential opportunity in a country that at the time was combatting a political uprising. Unfortunately they were on the wrong side of that coin and Cuba doesn't owe them shit.

Sometimes we have visions, flashes of our fucked up future. This may be one of those moments.

The only solution is for you to tape yourself watching that show and post it to youtube.

How did you overcome this feeling? Was it just an overnight thing or something you had to work on?

Probably the day I checked into emergency and realized the multi week fever I had was not the result of a flu or the common cold, but the result of an extreme case of severe aplastic anemia. And had I chose to 'sleep it off' one or two more days like I planned to, I probably would have died in my sleep. I'm still recovering, not cured, but stable.

It made me realize that I'm not afraid of death. When the doctors were diagnosing me it took a few weeks to come to a conclusion. On my first night in emergency they told me it could be Leukaemia. I was waiting for the shock to wear off, but it never came. I wasn't in shock. I was annoyed. That this circumstance it going to be a ball and chain on my existence. Just a privileged reaction, far from noble. Being in Canada with paid health care and all.

It's been a few years. I can't really place it. There has been a big shift, but I don't know what. It's kind of like how we can't recognize definitive fashion eras, or pop music tastes until 10-15 years later. Petty things don't matter. Big things don't matter. I speak more frankly about my opinions. Maybe that would have happened regardless of this event. The only things I care about is people I'm close to and family. But there is always a voice in the back of my head saying that we're all no more complex than some hyperactive bacteria in a petri dish, and when we perish it was all for nothing.

Regarding this situation, I found an interesting Google trends chart. I had not realized how much of a spike this event has caused people to visit Reddit en masse, and thus force older users to look for alternatives due to dilution (perhaps only perceived).

Why doesn't he advocate instead for more officers, for more funding, for better organization within the department?

It's likely that will never happen, not at least until the fed steps in with bails of money. Finger pointing at an anemic police force and telling them they need to find better ways to run their department help nobody. For once, they are being honest about the most effective way people can protect themselves.

No, you're launching 12 websites in 12 months. Big difference.
