Ghostly and Ninjatune receive a healthy percentage of my salary. They are excellent.

Thank you!

I haven't personally, but two close friends have done this.

One went to Tanzania and helped build a school, play football (soccer), climbed Kilimanjaro and so on. He said (as you'd expect) it was amazing, and the way he speaks about it sounds like it was not only a Good Thing for him to do for the world, but also helped him get away from a small town and see more of the world.

The other friend did a similar thing but more sport-based. He said he was a bit bored and it was nice and everything but 'a bit shit'. Moody bastard.

So I think you make of it what you will, but I can't imagine it being a bad thing.

I think it comes down to what the benefit is.

If the poor have their tax increased but the money ends up funding corporations and war/oil and not in educating and developing genuinely effective social programmes then it won't benefit them, whereas if the rich have their tax increased they just have a bit less money in their bank account.

If the rich shoulder more of that burden (along with the appropriate allocation of resources to genuinely benefit all) then it gives more advantage and opportunity to more people.

I think a big part of the problem is people don't see this in a historical context. If good policy was accepted and media and politicking played less of a role, it would still take decades to see a turnaround in fortunes (pun intended..)

I hope that makes sense. Trying to make sure I explain myself but sometimes I'm not even sure what I think.

Ha! That's classic. Thanks.

I think you made the right decision. You shouldn't have a child you haven't prepared for and are not in a position to care for properly, and you made sure she got the upbringing she deserved. And it sounds like she is well-adjusted and grown up enough to accept you and love you. Well done :)

In the UK generally it's the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph, the Sun, etc. It is a subjective term but I'm talking sensationalist or more agenda-based publications which seem to dig deeper for pageviews or simply have writers who write with an obvious slant. The Guardian I find actually does this too a lot but it's left-leaning, however I just find the quality and intelligence of the writing generally considers other viewpoints and doesn't feel quite as forced as previously mentioned.

Not a VW fan but I too am really excited for new James Blake. I really want to see where he takes his sound.

(If you don't mind me asking) Did you feel any regret after you had met your daughter that you had only just met her, or just a new desire to develop a new relationship?

I think you both have hit the nail on the head here.

jennings  ·  4130 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are your strengths?

That's amazing! I think keeping a clear head (or at least assessing what things to worry about and when) just helps set the tone for others as well. You got this..

Not quite my cup of tea but this is really well done! Thanks.

It takes a lot to write so beautifully about this huge aspect for your life, thank you.

jennings  ·  4130 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are your strengths?

Good for you. If things don't go my way or I am feeling worried about something coming up in life, I tend to just think 'it'll be fine. It always turns out fine.' and it always has. Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe that mindset puts you at ease and able to cope better..

The post.

jennings  ·  4130 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What do you think is going to be the main age group/generation using Hubski?

I would imagine it would cut out a lot of the immaturity created by Reddit's voting system which favours quickly accessibly/lowest-common-denominator content.

I also think scale has something to do with it. The bigger it gets the more chance that lowest-common-denominator stuff has of getting more popular - depending on the users of course. So hopefully it will be a lot of mid-20s and up, and below that age range it would favour those who are more engaged and communicative.
