- We may call ourselves materialists, but at heart we often still think like dualists (mental phenomena are non-physical, separate from the brain). Implicit dualism may help to explain why some relatively pedestrian findings get so much airtime (just the wonder of mind made flesh), and why some critics refuse to accept that the brain can betray mysteries of the mind.
This is refreshing to read. It's not just those in the media that stumble into dualist speak, neuroscientists are often guilty of it as well.
If you cannot find a difference between a liberal and conservative mind, it means you are looking in the wrong place, or your instruments aren't up to the task.

Is it just typical of the human condition that as new technologies develop some of us will so desperately misuse that technology? What better way to "help" the world by convincing the lay public that a simple brain scan will determine the likelihood of an ex-con to fall back into old habits? I've been discussing this sort of thing lately with my barber at my weekly blood-letting. Bad humors be damned!
