yea I posted this cause I couldn't believe how many there were, shame on the U.S that we had more than the rest of the world combined. This is the kind of information that could have been conveyed very effectively (if effective is an easy to read data display) with a bar graph, but the the way that the audience has to invest time to watch it seems very effective to me. The time investment is time spent contemplating the data being presented, the viewer spends a lot more contemplative time when the data is presented in this manner. It struck me as a masterful display of quantitative information, perhaps it is art? I wondered how you folks think the choice of medium and presentation struck you?

I thought the presentation was really effective. Reminded me of Hans Rosling.

I agree about the presentation. It is art, IMO. But in this case, the creative aspect of it is geared towards the message, and it made a much greater impact on me than a chart would.
http://www.informationisbeautiful.net Has some really great examples of combining art and data. There's a post around here somewhere from the site. I think this is a burgeoning field, actually. I'd like to see some gallery installations. We are in the "information age", are we not?
