Steve, How would you compare this new one to the very awesome Summer Cherry Ghosts?

Hey deafs_deaf,

What I wouldn't give to be celebrating thanksgiving today with ya. Let me guess... you're making cheesecake?

sounds_sound  ·  4742 days ago  ·  link  ·
Oh man. That sound_sounds nice. Is Eve having her first turkey ever? No cheesecake for me. Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving BEFORE Halloween. Can you believe that?! It's just not right. The last couple of years I've managed to get the Americans together to do a little celebrating, but not this time around unfortunately. Ah well, Enjoy the food anyway. Love ya brother!

On a side note... the "cloud city" is a pretty weak visual representation of the possibilities :)

-Just sayin'

thenewgreen  ·  4742 days ago  ·  link  ·
Eve is having her first turkey ever. My brothers friend Johanna has a brother that lives in Durham, we are going to his house today. We've never met them and they've offered to have us over. -Isn't that nice? By all accounts they sound like fascinating people. We shall see.

Love you too pal. At the very least, you should go to Subway (or whatever socialist version of a sandwich shop they have there) and get a turkey club.

Good luck with that. It a Brave New Friendless World for you. Let me know how it goes :)

aside: Lu's cool. She has great posts, thanks for introducing her to Hubski.

I'm glad you enjoy her. She's good people. I wouldn't invite less. Call me 'thoughtful'
thenewgreen  ·  4742 days ago  ·  link  ·
I'll let you know. It's definitely a change not knowing anyone. I'm used to living in a town where I can't walk down the street and not see someone I know. What are your plans for Christmas?
sounds_sound  ·  4742 days ago  ·  link  ·
"Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name." Plans to go to Mom's house in Atlanta are tentative. Her x-mas present to me is typically paying for my flight home. This time around it's paying my December rent.
thenewgreen  ·  4742 days ago  ·  link  ·
I bet flights are pricey. She may have come out ahead on this one. -Except she'll be missing that famous Keck Cheesecake.

Wow, my reputation proceeds me.

What are you listening to these days? I need some new music. Seriously, help a brother out. My job has me driving a lot and I need some tunes for the road.
sounds_sound  ·  4772 days ago  ·  link  ·
I feel like we haven't talked about music in a while. Let's see.....

Bryan and I were talking and we think Avey Tare's 'Down There' is the best album of the year. He's the primary song writer for Animal Collective.

Blood Orange's 'Coastal Grooves' nice new-wavey steady poppy. Nurses' 'Dracula' yummy reverb space mountain. Gang Gang Dance's ' Eye Contact' the new one from these guys, tight psychodelic jam. Fleet Foxes' 'Helplessness Blues' saw them in seattle with the walkmen, good show. James Blake's self titled debut beats and soul from a british white boy. Rainbow Arabia's 'Boys and Diamonds' weird duo but it's pop at heart. Warpaint's 'The Fool' all girl band, nice angst guitar howl. Twin Shadow's 'Forget' the new prince - for real!

Thanks, I'm on it. I've been digging the new Fleet Foxes. I'll begin checking out the rest, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm about to start recording music with a girl I met down here that has a gorgeous voice and is a violinist/cellist/pianist. -I'm really excited about it. I miss creating with other people.... A LOT.

I've got a 2 hour drive tomorrow with my pal Avey Tare.

Thanks.

sweet. is she as hot as her voice? enjoy the avey tare. try to hear all the layering. they don't call them the modern beach boys for nothing. what have you been listening to?
thenewgreen  ·  4772 days ago  ·  link  ·
As for her hotness... we'll discuss off line.
sounds_sound  ·  4772 days ago  ·  link  ·
My brother sent me the new wilco. he's pretty into it.

Looking forward to offline talks. Wouldn't want a paper trail. And who really knows about the people who hold the keys to this website. Might be of the deranged varietal.

thenewgreen  ·  4772 days ago  ·  link  ·
"deranged"? This from a guy that wears thick black socks with sandals in July. -Stinkiest thing I've ever smelled.
sounds_sound  ·  4772 days ago  ·  link  ·
Good one man. You got me. It's not like that anymore though, I rock the Havaianas these days. btw that avey tare is dark. so don't come back and say, that shit was dark and it made me pissed off at all my accounts and i started crying and did a hit and run.

If anything happens to me, if any crimes are committed as a result of listening, I have left a note in the safe in my office to be read at my sentencing. The note clearly identifies you as the instigator of said crimes. The jury will see you hang SMK! Consider yourself warned.

by that time i'll have changed my name to deafs_deaf.
thenewgreen  ·  4772 days ago  ·  link  ·
A sweaty-socked-sandal by any other name will still smell as rank. They'll find you.

just picked up Big Star per bgood79's post: http://hubski.com/pub?id=6765

I've been listening to Joe Strummer lately, Fleet Foxes, The Dears, Dire Straits per NotPhil, Willie Nelson's Stardust, Wilco's The Whole Love, and a lot of Belle and Sebastian's The Life Pursuit -My daughter likes that album.

Not a whole lot of "new" music which is why I appreciate the recommendations.

Oh, lot's of Field Music too. I love that band.

thenewgreen  ·  4790 days ago  ·  link  ·
Did you get a chance to check it out? What do you think?
stevesmusichub  ·  4791 days ago  ·  link  ·
Summer Cherry Ghost was a really fun/poppy orchestral album. It was released in 2004 and I'm pretty sure much of the material was written well before that. In short, it's an album written by a young man. The themes include leaving college to pursue music, finding yourself etc. -But all of this communicated in an extremely "bright" way. Tim is and always will be a pretty "upbeat" guy and although I loved Summer Cherry Ghosts, it can be a bit too bright for me. He has MUCH more balance on his new album.

An example is the song "Mining Accident" a song about falling in love/connecting amidst natural disasters.... "your mine when the government falls, when anarchy reigns we can have a good talk.... will you be mine when the government falls"? -You wouldn't have found this lyric on his first album.

Listen to this haunting song "Witches": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L1UHZRSU2A

The vocal arrangement is awesome! As you can hear, this album has a sadness the other didn't. 7 years have passed and with time comes pain and disappointment. -You can hear this in his new album and frankly, it's better for it.

"Why heaven never helps you, who can tell Every hope you want to cling to, gone as well"

-I like the new wounded Timmy :)
