What is the counter-argument?
Here's a counter-argument about some of the points Chomsky made. The one that I wondered about was Chomsky's claims that Hamas offered a truce immediately after being elected.
This guy relies on lots of ad hominem attacks on Chomsky e.g. 'unrepentant stalinist'(c'mon) and seems to have lots of arguments centered on Islamic belief systems. Frankly, this guy seems a bit odd and gives an unpersuasive argument. Thanks for the link though.
It's also strategic, right? Israel is essentially a US base located smack dab where we may need it to secure vital resources. Lobby or not, we must need them or I don't think the majority of the US population would tolerate the riches allocated there.
I feel like we have our resources invested in allies such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and UAE though. Israel does provide a place to garrison our troops, but is it really all that important? If there wasn't such ridiculous support for Israel, I would think that much of the middle eastern belligerence, tension and terrorism would be quelled.
