A friend sent me this so I'll kick off the thread: "It feels like Christmas Eve, except some weird kind of Christmas Eve where Santa could possibly walk into your bedroom and punch you in the crotch."

I don't know. I'm pretty indifferent to the whole thing. I feel like whatever happens will happen and life will go on and some things may get better and some things may get worse but no matter what most people are going to continue to look out for number one. In some instances people will help others and in some instances people will fuck over others. No matter who wins and what bills pass things are essentially going to stay the same and you just have to hope that your accountant can find some loophole for you to fit into and hope you dont get cancer and hope that you can fly under the radar of all the bullshit and political drama and live a life that you are happy with.
It's like watching the Super Bowl when I don't really like either team. I'm still going to watch, but I have no energy behind the outcome. I am excited to see if my favored candidate is elected mayor, he really seems like the better choice, but his opponent is like the pied piper of starry eyed fools and youths. Because I don't have a dog in this fight it's interesting to see how I feel about some voting issues without my usual bias. The electoral college should be abolished, it's beyond ridiculous. It only distorts the will of the people. Voting machines should be unquestionably robust and accurate, leaving a paper trail with software that is open for anyone to inspect.
Massively apathetic. I'm pleased that this entire insufferable process is almost over so soon I won't have to be bashed relentlessly over the head by the continual onslaught of half-witted partisan rhetoric. I'm curious who's going to win, but I'm not emotionally invested in it in the slightest and don't give a shit. If I had to pick, I'd say Romney because it'd be entertaining for me to see how miserable and whiny the internet would get.
I don't have cable, anyone know of a good site to stream the election results as they come in?it'd be entertaining for me to see how miserable and whiny the internet would get.
-It really would be interesting. I've been thinking about what that could mean for the Obama's politically too. Would make for some great "theatre". Either way, the internet will be entertaining tonight depending on where you hang out. A friend invited me to a FB group called Political Asylum and its full of ultra right winged openly racist Romney supporters. If O wins, it will be fun to see how they react. If Romney wins, I might stop by huffpo for a minute just to see what the uninformed masses are saying.
Yeah, I'm excited but I would describe it more as the sort of excitement I feel when the last episode of a television series I've watched for years is about to air. I'm pretty sick of this "show" so I'm not sad its ending but at the same time its been a part of my life for so long that I have to watch it. Question: Can you take your child in to the booth with you? Thought it would be cool to take "E" with me.
I went with my parents when I was a kid. She let me punch the holes and made it a big learning experience about democracy and all the good stuff.
I saw people with their kids this morning. The guy next to me had his 2 year old and was telling him things like, "Daddy is voting," "I make marks on the paper next to who I like." Though I don't know what the election officials might think if you tried to pick up your kid and show them every detail.
That's pretty much how it feels for me, except for in 2000, Kris Kringle was wearing brass knuckles. More than anything, I just want the election to be fair. I do suspect that some precincts will not report the actual results, to both sides advantage/disadvantage. That shouldn't happen to anyone's vote. We should get a system that provides everyone with an ID, and uses a open-source, secure and standardized ballot and tabulation. There should be a bipartisan commission to at least create a system that was available to the states that wanted it. These ID's should not be part of a Federal database. It should only be a system for the states to implement.
Yep. Id. Paper ballots. Required watchers from all three parties (hey, give the L's some cred) at all points. 200 yard exclusion zone around polling places. Mandatory video recording of all polling places, 100% live stream. Rock the actual vote, says I. -XC
I think the ID thing is a false flag. There are LITERALLY no legal voting age people who are compos mentis who don't own picture ID. I believe in undecided voters who aren't stupid. I don't believe in people without ID. I'm more understanding about the whole address/precinct thing. :-) -XC
Well, the good thing is that we don't have to agree on that to implement a fair ID system. You can just feel like we are being overly cautious, and we both get what we want.I believe in undecided voters who aren't stupid. I don't believe in people without ID.
I'm more understanding about the whole address/precinct thing. :-)
Really? I think very little of Obama but I could see him taking that on. I could certainly see Mitt doing it. Heck, Bill Clinton even. It's a noble non-partisan thing and it'd be dead easy. Remember when Jimmy Carter used to haunt polls overseas? If he can manage to add value then anyone can. _XC
My prediction - not a peep about voter fraud/id, until the next campaign cycle. It's a distraction issue, not a real problem.
