My home music production setup is finally something I fully understand and can control without (too much) thinking about it.
Which has led to me being inspired to create for the first time in ... a very long time.
So I created a new SoundCloud account to share my works in progress, bits and pieces, and weird stuff I am making.
Equipment:
- iPad
- GarageBand
- Fundamental (app for iPad)
- Reason Compact (on iPhone)
- Fender Mustang P/J short scale bass
- Fender Rumble Studio 40 modeling amp
- Fender Telecaster
- Epiphone SG
- Vox VT40x modeling amp
- Focusrite Scarlett Solo
Oh... by the way, these are all first-takes. No writing or composition. Just set up a groovy drone, pick up the bass or pick a keyboard in GarageBand and make something up, find a drum beat and maybe a sample to go with it, and see if anything interesting comes out. I set up this SoundCloud account specifically for this experimentation. In the second track - Europa Calling - I set up that drone and the little F/E/C bass riff, then just hit record and tried to come up with some melody line over it. You can hear it start to come together at about the 1:00 mark, where that little minor triad appears. Then about 1:35 I figured out how to build that melody a bit further. The weird clicks are my too-long fingernails... which I have since clipped. I want to revisit this one and do a couple of takes of the bass melody line again, to get the timing right and apply more structure around the melody. The last track Midnite Cruising was my first experience with Reason Compact, a Reason app for the iPhone. This is about 15 minutes of work, building from a basic Reason Compact source riff.
