As a long-time hubsquid, this has always been my shelter where I might ease my ringing ears with the voice of reason. I stopped being active and started lurking for probably well over a year now, maybe two. And I anticipated a big, warm, lovely "I'm back" post to say hi to all of you again-- some of whom I've met in person, and some of whom I could simply pass by on the street, walking opposite directions, and feel honored that you're on the same block as me.
Seems like trouble has found its way to paradise. I want to reconnect here and exchange some love and sanity. But I guess I'll hold off on a warm-and-fuzzy "I'm Back" and use this moment to beg the quiet ones to come out and grip hands. Hope you're all safe and well, and much love.
Edit: So as to offer a solution instead of showing up just to complain. I'm reading the latest book co-authored by former SECDEF Mattis, "Call Sign Chaos." I highly recommend it, even in audiobook, if your "leadership compass" could use a calibration towards compassionate and competent.
Great to see you, pabs. Not sure you've lurked chat, but it's a development: https://hubski.com/chat
Oh hell yeah! No more late night IRC linkups :'(
Thanks for always responding to DM and when I ping you :). It's been simultaneously comforting and terrifying to see military leaders feel the need to weigh in on President Dipshit's foolishness. Toolbags like Pompeo are no reflection of you or any institutions you may have in common.
As of some memos pushed out from on high, and two or three briefs in the last 24 hours, it seems (edit: in my personal opinion) that the Army (idk about the rest) has come to a consistent and correct page on this. Unfortunately that's all I can say about it but trust that, as an apolitical body, we seem to be standing fast against the political agents that would like us to break that habit. Couple guys lost their jobs or used their blessing of retirement in defense of that, too.
