Parents deny their children's choices all the time. At least if they're any good at it.and I don't believe it is the parent's right to deny their kids that choice.
Yeah, choices like "go out with friends and do drugs all night" not "I want to dedicate my life to becoming X or Y." If a kid wants to dedicate themselves to a sport or a job or an activity of any form, a parent should only be able to attempt to discourage them with argument, not with force or threat. Your kid's choices are not yours to make for them, and they never will be.

That's true to a large extent, but not for something that's actively harmful. I wouldn't let my kid dedicate his or her life to playing in traffic, either.
