- “I wanted to give this gift not only to the public, but also to the Public Security Bureau, because they are so eager to know about me. I wanted them to know what I’m doing in the office, who I meet in this garden, and how I’ve been sleeping,” he said.
It's also ridiculous how every single website is blocked. Gmail was so unstable. Google image works 50% of the time. Even Google Plus was blocked. Pretty much every single blog was blocked. I never realized how annoying and frustrating that would be until I experienced it. As much as I love my country, it makes me sad to watch and experience all of this. What makes all of this even sadder is that I don't even think that many Chinese my generation care about all of this. People are so materialistic that everyone just wants to make money and get rich, resulting in so many counterfeits and fake products. I don't know if this mentality was a result of China being poor for the past couple decades, but I hope someday people would care more about human rights and freedom.
As for the materialism, I think you make a great point: ....this mentality was a result of China being poor for the past couple decades
-New money always buys the flashiest cars, the biggest houses etc. It's why over 70% of retired NFL players end up declaring bankruptcy. Let's hope for China's sake, they aren't so reckless.
