Leon motherfucking Bridges. I've seriously bonded with my dad over this music. It reminds him of 60's soul and blues, and it's new enough to not feel dated for me. Give the whole album "Coming Home" a listen, there are some amazing gems in there!
Cody Chesnutt wrote some dirty neo soul about ten years ago that had a sound that'd fit in with artists forty years ago. He kinda lost his mind for a while and toured an album he never recorded. I really don't understand what he was trying to do. He's got a new album I need to check out.
You know what? I really do wish I looked good in leather. I don't. Never have. Great track, fun listen. Thanks for pointing me towards this comment flagamuffin.
Huh. I heard one of his songs on the radio the other day and basically thought, if you're gonna listen to this style might as well listen to the best of it, not the newest. I have always viewed sounding dated as an advantage when it comes to music.
It takes more than 'pretty damn incredible' to get into Smokey Robinson's^ league, but no one ever listens to him anymore. And this is basically what he sounds like, except more iconic. Which I don't understand, because his music, by r&b/motown standards, is extremely accessible. ^Or Marvin and Tammi, or Four Tops, etc
