I'm currently watching Parks and Recreation with my SO and while it's a ton of fun, sadly we're nearing its end :/
Before that I binge-watched Daredevil and Breaking Bad. Weekly, I watched The Walking Dead, The Last Man on Earth, Fresh Off the Boat and Better Call Saul. I liked all of them and I'll continue watching them as soon as they go on (and X-Files of course!). Another one I just started is Mr. Robot, which looks very promising and I'm looking forward to True Detective Season 2 and Rick and Morty! Also binge-watched everything from Black Mirror, highly recommendable!
I have a couple of things on my to-watch list, but much of it is just another comedy. I'm looking for something with cliffhangers, wtf moments, mystery/hidden stuff and suspense. Something along the lines of Breaking Bad, Lost and Utopia (UK) is what I'm looking for (with no plot holes preferred).
So, tell me, what is/are your favorite tv show/s? Do you have any specific recommendation for me?
PS: Stuff currently on my to watch list which I'm currently on the edge about: the wire, sopranos, firefly, bsg, suits, house of cards, hannibal, fringe, californication, it's always sunny, modern family, arrested development, fargo, sherlock, downton abbey.
You've got some great stuff on your to watch list. I'm going to suggest you get to Hannibal as soon as possible. Easily one of mine and my SO's favourites. Sense8
is also very interesting so far. I'm only to episode 6 of 11 (I think...) But its one of those shows that could be the next big thing. I'm really hopeful for it.
House of Cards and OITNB will certainly give you that cliffhanger feeling. Modern family is a smart, funny comedy and has re-watchability through the roof. Sherlock is hit or miss sometimes, I definitely have favorites. It's very well created though.
My all time favorite show is Battlestar Galactica. Unfortunately, I think they just took it off of Netflix. It's still totally worth the time to download it and give it a go. It offers fantastic character development and thorough exploration of much of the human condition, enabled through the sci-fi genre. My favorite sci-fi writers utilize the genre to create situations that would never present themselves in more realistic fiction, and Battlestar does that for sure.
The Blacklist is currently my fix for Breaking Bad style cliffhangers. Even though I don't like that kind of crime solving stuff it's really thrilling and the overarching story is more interesting than what I've seen from similar shows like Fringe. I also never got into Dexter, haven't been into the CSI/NCIS stuff but loved Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, just so you know my taste :)
Good thing I gave a proper reply and didn't just suggest the German version of "Let's make a Deal" based on your username. Because if you open the wrong door you get a Zonk, that looks like this: Also, I just watched the first season of Ray Donovan. It's also on Netflix (I suppose you watch the other shows there). It's not extremly well made unfortunately. The lines are cheap and cheesy at times and I never knew I'd dislike the Boston accent so much. But I grew attached to the characters and it's pretty entertaining. It's kinda like a cheap Breaking Bad with violence instead of drugs. Now what should I watch next?
The Wire is my all-time favorite show. It really just did everything right. Really excited about the new season of Hannibal. It's just really classy horror with high production values and I am always intrigued by the background music and sound work. The characters are compelling and the story is really well written. I just learned that there is an episode (after the Boston Marathon bombing) that never aired in the US, but made it onto the blu-ray.
Mhm, I didn't inform myself in detail about Hannibal yet, but that sounds pretty good.. and Season 3 just started.. maybe I should binge-watch S01 and S02 this weekend and join the third season... mhhhhmm :D Also, I obviously heard a lot of the wire, which is often called the best series ever. I don't doubt it's cast, the realism and how well it's written, but how does it hold up regarding my wishes with cliffhangers, suspense and wtf moments? I think it's really well done, but 'just' depicts a general story. What should be my expectations going into it?
The Wire is an entirely different experience from most television and may not be what you're looking for. You describe some common tropes in TV. The Wire is more like a cross between a novel and a somewhat sad, but moving, human interest piece. It has cliffhangers in a sense, but not the sort of hooks that get thrown out by most series. But really, it is the best show ever made. I found it to be more educational than most other works of art and a lot of my schoolwork. You have to put in some patience at times, but the payoff is incredible.
Interesting, sounds really unique indeed. Just what I heard all the time so far. And that makes it interesting, even though it might not fit 100% my criteria. I guess it's a no-brainer must watch anyway, which such critiques. Thanks for the clarification :)
There are so many different stories going on within the Wire. When it aired, it was definitely one of the few shows that, regardless of what what was going on, I knew I would be tuning in. It really puts you through the ringer, emotionally. Like Breaking Bad, I was sad when it ended, but satisfied none the less. I would agree that it's not a show you can just casually watch and that it is about the payoff. I've been considering rewatching, but it is such an investment.
Go watch "The Lost Room", it's really short (miniseries), and it's absolutely fantastic. Also Prison Break. Just season 1 though. Sliders is good if you like sci-fi stuff. It's old, and sort of diminishes as it goes on longer, but it's good. For comedy, you'll want to be looking at Better off Ted, Dead Like Me, and Reaper. All good stuff.
I watched PB season 1, tried to survive S02 and then gave up. Similar to Vikings, where I barely watchd anything of S02 and I don't think I've seen a lot of S03. I haven't hear of any of these shows, but The Lost Room looks interesting and mini-series are always quickly watched. I will definitely add it to my list! :) Thanks for the recommendations. If you had to pick one favorite series, without skipping a bit (as in not only S01 or something), what would be your favorite?
Hard to say. Besides Prison Break, the only one I'd be cautious about watching (if you want all of it to be excellent) would be Sliders, since there was some 'drama' that happened with the actors and such later on (like S3/4/5). So perhaps avoid that one. The rest should all be good to go. I actually haven't watched Dead Like Me or Reaper since I've first seen them. Better off Ted I've watched quite a few times, so perhaps go with that one.
