Arthur Russell's World of Echo I... don't really know how to describe this one. It's experimental cello avant-garde reverb music, and it's extremely entrancing. It's bursting with emotion more than most anything I know. It's sad and beautiful and poetic. And incredibly ahead of it's time for being released in 1986. If you want to see where people like Animal Collective surely must have drawn inspiration, it's here. Make it through the first five minutes if you want to get an idea of it truly. Russell was also an interesting figure. He got into his music in the disco scene, and was notoriously unable to complete anything. This was the only official album he ever put out before he died of AIDS in 1992, but left a huge amount of work behind. This album was something of a departure from what he was already well known for in the music scene, which was much more pop and disco. I can't stop listening to it. Every time it gives me different emotions and I hear something new, but it always makes me feel like it's being made by pure emotion, as if the man behind it doesn't exist. It's calming.
Lyle Lovett - Church I hadn't listened to this song in a long time, but it came up in a recent IRC, and now I've been listening to it a lot. Also, this rendition of Stairway to Heaven is really cool.
