That hit home. I just tried to sleep on the ground for long while 'cause at least then I wouldn't be cold. Funny to think that actually might've helped me. But then again I had also put my hands in my armpits to warm them and taken of my shoes because they'd gotten wet and were tight and I'd sprained my leg. I put my gloves on my feet instead. Which means I was basically walking with really thick socks on. So I did act kind of rationally.
And I walked among the trees since they broke the wind and it was warmer there. Oh god that adds a layer of horrifying I'd never thought of. Everyone was already pretty sure I was the dead victim of a serial rapist but I'd never thought about the fact that they probably would have thought that for a long while if I'd died. I'm pretty sure at least one of the police officers thought I was lying about having walked in to the forest by my self and though I was protecting someone. Which is the correct response and I did act very weird because I had at that point been up for 22 hours and was pretty damn incoherent. Also I'm pretty sure they would have taken a really long while to find me since they had been trying to for 14 hours and didn't succeed. Also a local politician was shadowing the police that night. He made me tea.Australian aborigines, who once slept on the ground, unclothed, on near-freezing nights, would slip into a light hypothermic state, suppressing shivering until the rising sun rewarmed them.
At 85 degrees, those freezing to death, in a strange, anguished paroxysm, often rip off their clothes. This phenomenon, known as paradoxical undressing, is common enough that urban hypothermia victims are sometimes initially diagnosed as victims of sexual assault.
Also for Swedishbadgergirl (there was a time when I used alts on Reddit)But then again I had also put my hands in my armpits to warm them and taken of my shoes because they'd gotten wet and were tight and I'd sprained my leg.

Yes and no. That was a frontpage askreddit post. Check it out. (34404 subscribers)
a community for 1 year In other words, your comparison point is this. Can you name any subreddits of under 40,000 people that aren't lunatic fringe specialty interests these days?
Duly noted. I deleted my account yesterday and it felt pretty damn good. Unlike Hubski, I don't want anyone to put the pieces together as much over there, and I felt like I was getting close to that point. So I made a new one and am subscribed to 4 or 5 things, about.
Well, I joined my first online forum in 2003-ish. I remember explaining what Google is to classmates (and to the teacher) in elementary school, having to spell it out because of the weird name. But yes, you're pretty spot on.
Fun fact: I graduated college a few weeks before this came out. This was the hot phone that year. Yahoo was the search engine you used if you didn't know about Altavista.digital.com. "Wireless" was what the British called radio. eBay was that bullshit beanie baby site and when you wanted to pass a note in class, you wrote it on paper as texting didn't exist. There were no laptops in class (fun fact: students couldn't really afford color laptops until my junior year; the people I knew with laptops had monochrome) and anybody rawkin' an AOL email address was a hopeless newb, not an old-schooler.
Oh, you just reminded me that I still have an account, Off deleting!
Yeah, I looked at it kind of went "how could I ever like that?"
I mean I was sure as hell not acting rationally, my tiny little reptile instinct brain had fully taken over. Have you read World War Z? There is this scene in it were a woman crashes in the woods and manages to get to civilization because someone who it is strongly hinted doesn't exist was talking to her. It was like that, but I knew I was talking to myself.
Yeah, I would've become my towns urban legend. (People I've never talked to do know who I am sometimes though) Side note, my facebook inbox was extremely, well interesting the next day.
Also I do remember that kind of "shut up and leave me alone with my food" feeling.
And on the relationship side, at the time a lot of people thought it would be really cute to fix me up with this guy who really likes me. Yeah, he once showed his, ehm - well I think you can figure that one out - while we were playing video games and asked me if "it could come inside" when I let out a horrified" NO!" he asked why. He goes to my school and sometimes says things like "don't get lost in the woods" to me. Yeah.
Aw, I was going to link to Dyatlov but of course you're ahead of the game.
