Here's a great, 'positive' documentary about Detroit. At first, I saw the name Johnny Knoxville and thought it may be a Jackass stunt to see how long he can last on the streets. Instead, it is an uplifting rebuttal to all of the Dateline style docs that make Detroit look like 1945 Warsaw. Sure, there are plenty of parts that look like that, but Detroit is much larger than people may think. This doc shows that you can fit Manhattan, San Francisco, and Boston all within Detroit's city limits. There are a handful of diehard-Detroit entrepreneurs that are maintaining successful businesses by attracting people from outside to come spend money there, but it needs way more. Artists are taking advantage of the fact that they can rent entire buildings for their studios for virtually nothing. It will be a slow birth, but Detroit will eventually have a kick ass music and art scene again. I live 15 minutes north in a boutique-y style town and I look for any reason at all to make it down there. It seems like business owners are starting to realize that if they have a desirable product (Slow's BBQ) People will come down in droves.

Gotta say, I was a bit wary at seeing "Jonny Knoxville" too, but it's actually pretty damned good. I enjoyed the Cass Tech example of

The end when they're talking about Michigan Central made me think that what they're doing there is a good metaphor for the entire city. It's getting more beautiful one "pulled weed" at a time. The guy from Slows is cool. Makes me want some BBQ. My sister and brother in law live in Detroit and I'm pretty sure they eat there weekly. Good stuff.

Nice. You got called a douche by the slows guy, that counts for something. Not sure what, but something.
This is going to be a big year for Detroit imo. Red Wings, Tigers, Lions are all looking really good. Add an emergency financial manager for the city and I think we're on to something.

I could be wrong, but the last time I checked the only place that validated goodwin bucks was Bouzouki's and even then only on Monday's from 11:00 - 11:30 am.
Still, I'll take that bet.
