They thought the locking mechanism was more complicated than it was. My first response to this story was incredulity or 'what's with those kiwis?' Then I remembered: 2009: We had just picked up our new keyless Prius. We parked in a plaza to do some shopping. We got out of the car, but could not get the doors to lock no matter what we tried. Frantically, we phoned the salesman. He said, "The car won't lock if it is still running. Maybe you didn't turn it off." Indeed it was still on, but it was so quiet we couldn't tell.
