I wish I had been at this show. I've listened to this set many times. But how many sets are occurring every day, week and year that are monumental? No doubt, the answer is innumerable.
Music is such a gift, live music in particular. Even if you're not a fan of Jeff Buckley, you can appreciate the fact that a live performance, whether it be in theater, music or any other aspect of performance cannot be duplicated. I know that ButterflyEffect, ghostoffuffle, b_b, bgood79 and others are live music fans. My question to you all is this:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE YOU CAN LINK TO, THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE WITNESSED?
Pretty sure the first Talking Heads album I ever listened to was a cassette copy of Stop Making Sense. Listened to it often enough that later first listens of all the studio versions left me very disoriented. So much energy in the live recordings. It was only way later that I realized that this was a filmed concert- I've since watched the footage god maybe hundreds of times. This to me is the quintessential live show. Energy, showmanship, musical chops, just enough absurdity. Hoo boy. My dad snuck into a Talking Heads concert circa this time, maybe a little before. Too late for me, alas.
Dave Chappelle's Block Party is my top choice by far. The documentary is amazing and has all my favorites artists on its line up. I need a time machine Here the full doc by the way, it's highly recommended: P.s. You can see J Cole in the crowd in several shots
Favorite? Favorite is a really hard word to work with. How about I just go for "favorite over the last 5 years", in which case how can you possibly beat the last LCD Soundsystem concert at Madison Square Garden. Rewatching this. I still want nothing more to see All My Friends live, do more LCD Soundsystem things James Murphy.
re the Jeff Buckley performance: just remember that its one guy and a guitar. That's it.
