I'd never heard of these guys until reading Jeff Tweedy's Guardian editorial that thenewgreen posted the other day. He made a strong case for them. Glad I bought into it.
In the spirit of the article, this is the full album (although something tells me Tweedy would rip his artfully-mussed hair out at the thought of listening via YouTube rather than vinyl), recommend listening to the whole thing because yeah, albums.
One of my favorite albums of all time. First band to call themselves "punk." The first album oddly nodds It's head to fifties rock and roll pop while abandoning pop sensibility at the same time. The album was a huge influence on Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska, you can hear it most clearly on "State Trooper." Bruce did a great cover of "Dream Baby Dream" as the closer on a live tour that you can see on YouTube. I'd link it but I'm on my phone and its a pain in the ass.
Yeah, now that I think of it, I can definitely hear traces of this in Nebraska. Another great album. I'll check YouTube for the cover.
Thanks for the shout out. I enjoyed the album. I hear this albums influence on Wilco in their song Spiders (Kid Smoke). What do you think? Am I crazy? Edit: also, ghostoffuffle, cgod and others, I started using the tag #albums a while back and I post full albums there that I like and would like others to check out. Please add to it.
Yeah, it's got a heavy programmed beat/kraut rocky thing going on. Didn't know about the albums tag, will definitely add to it!
Nice, I have time tonight to actually listen to that uninterrupted. Thank you. Damn, that voice.
