My sister lives in Detroit. Last year a man broke in to her home and attacked her (the night we were at our Hubski DC meetup). She was able to grab a nearby hammer and hit him repeatedly on the arm until he finally fled. He was arrested days later, with a broken arm.

Since the incident, they've installed a more comprehensive alarm system and lighting. They've also built a "safe room," and got a new dog to accompany their boston terrier. They've gone from this:

To this:

an Argentinian Dogo

As for your question, nobody on the Hubski team actually lives in Detroit. mk is in Ann Arbor and b_b has since moved to a Detroit Suburb and purchased a minivan. I'd shout-out to him but he's at Disney World. -No joke.

I hope we get a Mickey Mouse trip report from him.

That's one muscular looking dog, but it must have been terrifying for your sister. Interesting about the hammer solution. Wow.

I am in NYC overlooking the Hudson River where, yesterday, I talked to a man who was fishing for and catching and eating striped bass out of the Hudson. My friend has been taking pictures for my first and future trip report and sending them to my drop box, but I can't figure out how to get them into a format that I can then copy to hubski. Anyone reading this who has an easy set of instructions, please pm me. Imagine I'm your grandmother and you're trying to explain to her how to post a jpeg on to hubski.

No Mickey Mouse trip report coming. I shan't disgrace these pages with such nonsense. What I will say is that I was on a noble mission fulfilling the dream of a five year old niece, princesses and all. Some things one has to swallow one's pride for. I do not, for the record, own a minivan.

I actually can't wait to take my kids to Disney. I imagine that it's heaven for them and that seeing them actively using their imaginations and fully buying in to the fantasy of it all would be pretty kick-ass.

There's a strange dichotomy between joy and revulsion. The first morning we were there, I had my niece on my shoulders for the pre-Magic Kingdom opening song and dance featuring Mickey and Minnie. The happiness she and the hundreds of other kids around her were experiencing was intense, and was really cool to be a part of with her. On the other hand, the waste, glut and contrivance of the whole park makes me want to puke. By day three I was starting to get a strange sense of anxiety, and I'm not in any way a very anxious person. Also, it sucks to pay $8.75 for beers.

Save the jpeg images to your desktop on your computer.

1. Go to imgur

3. Select the box, "browse your computer"

4. select the images from your desktop to upload

5. click "start upload"

6. You will see a progress bar as it uploads. Once it completes, you should see the image.

7. Click on the image in order to open it in a new tab

8. Copy the URL of that tab

9. Paste this URL in your hubski post or comment

Just riffing on the joke you started (and I've edited), you should (hopefully) know that I don't consider you grandmotherly, or even motherly. I think of you otherly. Meaning, you're like no other person I know. -In the best possible way.

edit: Let me know if it works for you as I described it.

Your sister's story is heartbreaking. My wife is constantly afraid of such a thing happening and honestly it's rubbed off on me. I am glad that there are people like your sister who are brave in the face of danger.
