This is great, except Wolfram Alpha is really bloated at the moment and computation times take a long time. I hope that their growth extends to shortening the time and making it's use as fluid as it is in Mathematica 8.

If WolframAlpha's website was akin to Google's search homepage, they'd be far more user friendly.

There's an IAMA from an Ex Digg employee and from what I've read of his opinions on Reddit during their V4 deployment and all, is that they barely thought or even glanced at Reddit. They considered it a very badly designed website that couldn't compete. Their mistake was not looking at Reddit and realizing why it was growing in the first place.

While the community at Reddit has basically reached that apex where the average IQ starts to drop, the design of the website is very simple and easy to get used to. I'm very glad that hubski is just as simple and sleek. Also Hi Mk :)

I'm surprised that Reddit isn't mentioned by Kevin Rose. Facebook and Twitter? I've never seen them as a news source of any kind.

I haven't heard any national pride associated with Higgs Boson so much as just awe. CERN in itself is composed of various scientists from various regions. Atleast on a personal level, I never made the association.

And mine is that you are reading a connotation in his attack that doesn't exist. Mountain out of a molehill. You'd do better to attack portrayal of women in games than one idiots rant (who by the way, was fired.)

Even if the comment was sexist, how is that representative of the entire industry? Ofcourse there are no male equivalents. Sex sells, and these models are there to garner the attention of a primarily male audience. Look at commercials aimed towards women or even movies aimed towards women. Highly attractive men are usually present. Sex sells. In using it to sell, it does not make the profession sexist. You devalue an individual by judging their worth by their career choice. This is not sexist, but just a dismissive view of modeling to sell stuff. That's the insult, not that women in general have nothing to give besides looks. I don't see a single part of his rant implying anything of that likeliness.

What are her accomplishments in the medium? You listed the Guild, how has that moved gaming forward, has she created the next half life? She might have some influence and might have brought some change in the gaming medium, but has done little to actually progress it.

That's well and good, there are other normal girls however, that have also majored in tougher subjects than Math and Music I imagine. From better Universities. Who aren't as attractive and work in the video game industry, what's the point?

Yes, that's indeed what it does imply, but I don't understand how that's sexist? I'm still not grasping how this is dismissive to women. Is it because he's implying because she's good looking she contributes nothing? That's more of a personal insult than a sexist one. Saying something along the lines of, "All you're good for is whoring out" or something is sexist.

There might be no male equivalent to booth babes in the industry, but that's because of the audience it caters to. Have you ever been to a car show? Usually it's female models in Bikini's showing off the cars. I wonder why. And it's no attempt to put a successful woman "in her place," and "devalues every woman involved in gaming" is a massive hyperbole considering this is one guy making statements that you are reading far too deep into.

Women make up a very small audience for triple A games, yet the amount of scrutiny the industry is suddenly getting is hilarious. Whereas other forms of Media (see: Movies, TV Shows, Books, etc.) have never even been glanced at. But I suppose it's not sexist when the woman is always the intelligent one on TV and dismisses men instead.

He went for the most petty insult he could find. How is that sexist either? Is the word babe sexist because it's dismissing her for being an attractive woman?

Regardless of what content, jezebel is a terribly biased website with shoddy articles. And exactly how is it misogyny considering that the blogger went on for non sexist comments? If he just was rude to her without bringing her gender on the table, how is this misogyny? I feel like people just need an excuse to make sexist visible in one form or another even when it doesn't exist. Yes, gaming caters towards a male audience. Yes, we definitely need to focus on making games themselves that aren't sexist both to men and women. However, this is a problem visible in all forms of media catering towards men.

Here's the point, sex sells. And inside an industry where the majority of workers are men, the disparity does stand out. There is no misogyny in this case. Making a mountain out of a mole hill. As I said prior, jezebel is a very shitty website.

Well written article but the conclusion reached wherein the blame is laid squarely on the Universities (American), is in my opinion wrong. When you consider Universities in Germany, and in other European countries where students are excelling and doing better than their American counterparts, you have to realize that this isn't simply "Elitist Accreditation". That paper you earn is proof that you have learned critical thinking, you have learned whatever Engineering or Science you have studied. As these fields become more technical, the knowledge needed increases.
Incredible read. Student loans really are a mess, the only way out that I could think of is to get Equity out of your mortgage, pay using that and declare bankruptcy. But ofcourse, you would have to have some form of equity in your house to get a second lein, which with $21,000 I doubt the father has.

Nice to meet you to thenewgreen, really great website, I'm trying something different from reddit which has become a bit crappy lately. And I'm not sure how far up you'd have to go, the people that write policies and procedures are probably the executives for each division of the Bank. I'm guessing Executives for Lending/Retail Banking/and Legal. Their names are never in public, I'll go and look them up when I get into the Bank again.
