Thank you. I'd actually just gotten back into hubski myself when I posted it. My last activity was almost 2 years ago. Re: Chris' words, the part that really stuck out in his note to me was this: I was welling up reading the note for the first time obviously, but the flood gates opened when I got to that. Made me feel special and so fortunate to have known him. There was always an emptiness in me that no amount of partying and merriment could ever fill. But it's not to say we didn't try. And if anyone could cure somebody's ills with a good time, it would have been you.
Never! My friends just went to Jasper and Banff - the pictures look unreal. They actually did an extended trip over a couple weeks that included GNP too. For our trip, we're going up with some couple friends who have a condo on Lake Whitefish where they vacation every year. Staying for a week. We're not doing any hardcore backpacking or camping since it's more of a leisure trip (and a much needed one), but we'll spend plenty of time outside.
Oh don't worry. I spent all yesterday and the day before on the phone with friends, going over the notes he wrote to us, reminiscing about old times, and catching up. Chris brought people together while he was alive and still does even though he's not with us. I just felt like sharing here after logging in for the first time in almost two years.
I have something deeply personal to share. It's been one year today since my best friend committed suicide. Oddly enough, a journal of his was found yesterday with drafts of suicide notes, some addressed to individuals, some general. Interspersed with notes from his daily life like to-do items, grocery lists, job interview stuff, etc. Reading the note he wrote me gave me such an intense feeling of relief and closure. I had already made my peace with the complicated, tragic situation that it was, but his journal answered so many of my lingering questions. Thank you, Chris, for the most important friendship of my life and for helping me understand. Mental illness is heartbreaking.
Where'd you go? I'm heading to GNP on the 7th.
I'm popping in for the first time in 662 days. Hello!
Cool I'll follow you. I liked the video.
If this had been dragged out state by state, it could have taken another decade or more in some places, and I know more than a few people who would have continued to suffer as a result. Advocates of states' rights will likely be against this decision, but a greater good was done here.
Woah, there's a Hubski podcast? kleinbl00 has such a soothing voice. I feel motivated to do something awesome now.
Oh cool, glad you like it! Definitely let me know how it turns out. My wife and I make chili every year for the super bowl (I'm mainly the line cook), and for 2014 it was this recipe. She's both the photographer and chef, but I like to help her out and share the photos. In this particular recipe, I really think the extra avocado on top is so key - we do that a lot with salads and whatever else sounds remotely enticing with avocado added to it. I'll try to post a few other dishes she's made soon. We are basically hardcore foodies and always eating at various restaurants or making something new at home.
How did I forget to mention that? UCB is great and so many famous comedians have come out of there. Ass pennies are unforgettable.
Thank god she's the kind of person who can power through shit endlessly. I had to pass the CPA exams a couple years ago and could have used her work ethic. Her dad's a successful lawyer, so it's like she doesn't know anything else.
If you go to L2T with sub styles enabled, my username appears in pink comic sans. My wife is right in the middle of barbri with the exam at the end of next month. Any wisdom to share with her?
Transparent. It's on Amazon Video and stars Jeffrey Tambor as a divorced father of 3 kids who comes out as trans in his 60s. The show won a few awards a few months ago, so I'm not sure it's as overlooked as it was initially. Another serious show (but funny at times) is Togetherness on HBO. Just completed its first season and is a great mixture of (mostly) drama and some comedy. If you want something funny, I'd throw out Broad City, Mr. Show, anything related to Chris Lilley, Peep Show, Whitest Kids U' Know, The Kids in the Hall (I like sketch comedy a lot), The Larry Sanders Show, Bored to Death, etc. Some of these may be more well-known than you're looking for, so I tried to give a few extra recommendations to hopefully expose you to something you're not familiar with.
Oh yea, that wasn't me, I mod the music defaults. I recognize you just from DM, modtalk, and always bragging about being a lawyer. I married one so I know how it goes.
I would recommend going to the individual programming subreddits and browsing all their wikis because they've tailored them for questions such as this. I am still at barely an intermediate level, but I used /r/rails and /r/ruby in conjunction with a night course I took that combined HTML, CSS, HTTP, rails, etc. in an 8 week bootcamp format. I won a half scholarship for the program, so it was a no-brainer.
I just discovered this and have been loving it. I recently watched Mr. Show too, and they are both great sketch comedy shows.
Have you ever seen the documentary Tom Dowd and the Language of Music? If you have even the slightest interest in Clapton, Layla, Duane Allman, etc., I have to recommend this clip about the making of Layla.
Gotcha. I think I have it figured out now for the most part. Pretty nifty site.
Ha, thanks. I use snoonet and the what.cd network mostly, so adding another is easy. I'm following you now since you've helped me out, so you better supply some good content.
Unfortunately, yes. But on the bright side, I'm putting in my two weeks notice with work on Tuesday and taking off about 6 weeks before starting my next job since I'm moving cities and going on a 4 week honeymoon to Europe. There's plenty of pantlessness on the horizon.
Is there a hubski IRC network? Hook me up with that info.
