I feel like I'm one of the complaining old guys. Constant repetition of one word is one of my biggest pet peeves-- in my own writing, I do my best to avoid using the same word (aside from banal things like conjunctions) in adjacent sentences, or even sometimes twice in a paragraph.

I also dislike someone overusing a word. That said, My grandfather, who is one of the smartest men I know, over use the word rudimentary but it doesn't bother me. On the contrary, I love hearing him say it. Hearing someone else use it makes me think fondly of him.
