I can't wait for church's to lose their tax exempt status.
Don't hold your breath. There are even a number of churches who are explicitly engaging in political activities with the hope that the IRS will try to strip them of their exempt status so that they can sue the IRS under the 1st amendment. They believe that the current ultra conservative Supreme Court will ultimately rule in their favor so that they can have tax exempt status and support specific candidates. Unfortunately, they're probably right (Right?).
You're right of course. Which is exactly why we need to get money out of politics.
That idea appeals to me, but if money is taken out of politics, money will inevitably find its way into another structure that wields influence and power. So let's say that we somehow take money out of politics and we take politics and money out of religion, what does the money then migrate to?
By "taking money out of politics" I mean getting corporate influence out of politics. Politicians should only be able to acquire funds from the people. Corporations are not people. If you allow corporations to give donations you have politicians that serve the corporation, not the people. Democracy gets fundamentally destroyed.
