This is all in good nature, so try not to get overly competitive. Here's the gameplan: I shall list some obscure words, words that are not easy to slide into everyday conversation. Your job is to see how many of these words you can fit (contextually) into conversation in comments on Hubski* over the course of 6 days
[*See rule No. 3]
Rules:
>1) Making it known that your use of the word is for the purpose of this challenge renders that usage obsolete as far as scoring goes.
>2) You must provide links to your uses. This is to remove the risk of people making false score claims.
>3) Due to the close-knit community nature of Hubski, too many people may end up in on the game for this to work, so feel free to earn points by using the word(s) in comment sections of other websites, so long as any link to that comment will remain active (Other rules still apply)
>4) The use of the word(s) must be in a grammatically correct sentence. So no simple throwing random words into comments for points.
>5) I will take the final scores in on Sunday 18th of August at about 9pm (Western Australia time)
>6) you must have used each word at least once in order to be at all counted in the final scoring
Feel free to suggest changes and additions, this is still a work in progress, and feel free to message me if anything needs clarifying.
This weeks words are:
Vessel (Thank you lil for suggesting this one)
EDIT: As i had warned, scores would be tallied at 9pm Sunday (Western Australia time, because that's where i live), and hiss is the only person who provided proof that he used every word, and therefore wins both first, and last place for having both the highest and lowest scores of all people who even completed the requirements! Congratulations! I'm relatively high at the moment, so if anyone wants to arrange words for next week go ahead, because i'm about to pass out. Thank you all for playing, and may the force be with you.
Vessel: http://hubski.com/pub?id=95706 - bonus: http://hubski.com/pub?id=95730 so as to avoid any argument from thenewgreen re: my initial usage in a comment reply to my own thread. Exfoliate: http://hubski.com/pub?id=95704 Excoriate: http://hubski.com/pub?id=95693 Missive: http://hubski.com/pub?id=95700 Obviate: http://hubski.com/pub?id=95707 (I'm most proud of this one)
I'm in! I might suggest one new rule: In order to win, you must have used all the words. You can't just clean up using vessel 50 times all over the net. But at least once for each word. What do you think?
That makes sense, and also adds more challenge to the game. It's in!
Go ahead! I don't plan to hold ownership of the game, anyone can feel feel to take lead and post future games. Although credit through remembrance would be nice if it takes off.
Let's say you post a comment on Hubski, just grab the permalink for the comment/thread and comment it here. Compile all such comment links on one comment on this thread for scoring. Websites where you cannot link to individual comments are not applicable to the game unless you feel like taking screenshots)
Oo! I have an idea. I have a dictionary app on my phone that I've been using for some time that has a veritable shit load of "SAT" type words -- words that the average smarter-pants may have to look up. I could send you that list if you need more words.
That's a lovely idea, but to be honest i'm already doing such a thing with a dictionary website. Call me a cheat, but i just don't have the kind of vocabulary to keep this game interesting by myself. Feel free to suggest a word for next week though!
I am intrigued! Are we to post the links here? Just so we know.
I've begun and I have a word doc where I'm compiling the links. I'll post here when the contest is complete. I think it might be cool to have no idea where we stand until the end. What do you all think?
Your idea of holding all scores a secret until Sunday does lend an element of intensity to the game, perhaps we can implement that as a rule in the next game?
Sounds good, I'm in either way and may hold mine till the end this round too. Just to keep it interesting.
Yes! Post your links here, and on Sunday i shall tally your score. If you have any suggestions for rule changes don't hesitate to ask!
Shoot. I'm out of time. I think I got vessel. Here's the rest. My skin needs to be exfoliated. Daily. Weekly. Once a month, it depends on my stress level, my menstrual cycle, where I am. I was camping, for four days. A getaway with only cold showers and a 5 gallon water container. No warm shower every morning, no counter topped with lotions and cleansers, reminding me to clean. It was a glorious vacation, but camping is not the best environment for keeping my acne-prone skin clear of juicy pimples. I pick at them, subconsciously, once they appear. No amount of excoriation by my boyfriend can keep my hands from wandering, searching, pushing, and pinching. Obviously, if I learned to keep my hands away from my face, it would obviate the large red scabs turned scars, but it is no use. The only thing I can do is keep my skin clean so they don't appear. Once they are there, they are picked. ... Missive. :P

If I can make a suggestion for future iterations of this. Either the morning of, or the day before shout-out to all of the people that said they would participate. Most people, myself included, have way too much going on to remember the final hour/date to hand in their homework. This was a lot of fun though and I look forward to participating moving forward. I know that lil and insomniasexx, AshShields and Becoming_Betty and blackbootz were all interested in participating, and indeed did. I would also suggest a new post for the next round with the #hubskiwordgame tag. I'm in for round two!
