The real real problem is that, like most people writing on science, this guy isn't a scientist in a meaningful term of the word. To paraphrase: An ex-racialist (no loaded terms here!) is saying what we already knew, so he must be right. Right. I have no opinion on genetic heritage and group average or distributional IQ, mostly because I don't find measured IQ a very useful thing (phrenology anyone?). But the science is appalling. -XC
It's about time. This is well known by many educators, yet seldom spoke of, that socio-economics are what drive test scores. Too few educators speak of this and too few educational decision-makers listen. The greatest predictors of a students success are maternal educational level and economic stability in that students life. Economically disadvantaged people generally demonstrate lower performance, at least as measured by educational tests, regardless of their race or culture.
the biggest problem I see with the race and IQ thing is that while African Americans are a real group. (folks descended from west African and the Britons that raped them.) White does not really have a genetic meaningful definition.
