Well, I gave it my ...aspects(?) and it suggested I invite friends... by connecting it to Facebook. I thought the whole point was to dump Facebook, not connect to it. So, okay, didn't do that.
Now I've got a random collection of like 12 people I've never met who dump a bunch of random, not-really-connected-to-anything pictures in my "stream." Oddly enough, by following #reddit I saw the avatar of someone I know from myfitnesspal, so I guess I'm "sharing" with one person. But I gotta guess she's just as flummoxed by this thing as I am.
So has anyone else started messing around with "D*"? What the fuck is it?
Is it me or does the graphic on this page look like a bunch of sperm? https://joindiaspora.com/ -great name.
People want to share photos and what they are doing, and now they expect video conferencing as well. Most of the people I know on FB would go blank on Learn about how to host your own Diaspora server. That's a tall order. Diaspora has a noble objective, but if they want to achieve it, it has to be stupid easy, and they just have to kill it on so many levels. Basically, they'd have to do for social networking what Dropbox did for file-hosting. I also find their fund-raising efforts odd. The first kickstarter made some sense. I forgot if I signed up for a Diaspora account or not. I think I did back in the beginning. But I want less social network in my life, not more. Who knows, maybe it will be awesome.
