For some strange reason, I've had a crazy amount of followers on hubski since I joined just 12 days ago. This is strange to me mostly because I've not typically been seen as interesting in real life and online. If you were to find all of my various online accounts, you'd have a hard time finding one where I have any kind of reputation or following of any kind.
Why do you follow me (if you do), and what do you like to see in your feed? I typically don't give much of a shit what other people think about me, especially online. So it's weird for me to have over 50 people that will see whatever I post whenever they look at their feed. I'm almost tired of all of the really specific natured content on hubski lately, where everything is an article talking about a particular topic. Sure, it could be interesting, but then hubski isn't really useful any more. It's just a link aggregator. What I'm really interested in are the more general discussions, where everyone can understand without a phd, and still contribute to an interesting discussion thoughtfully. I'm not talking about the askhubski / askreddit type content where its all about stories and life experiences though. More like "What do you think about topic?" and "Something interesting to consider about topic". I often feel a lack of good topics, so I rarely post such content. But I would love to start.
Any ways, 50 people individually thought I did something well enough to click follow, cool. What do I do now? I'd like to keep doing this thing for a while so might as well get this stuff out of the way early on.
I've rambled enough. Thoughts?
You can make Hubski what you want to make out of it. I wouldn't worry so much about what other people want (in a post like this) because the community develops and evolves organically. You can gauge that evolution and adapt with it by the way people interact with you. Furthermore, what is more important than your number of followers is whether this is the right community for you. I have stayed, and plan to stay indefinitely, because this is a great place for me to share ideas I love and have real interesting discussion. Sometimes people even reach out for help or ask a question. And I get a lot of enjoyment from helping a group of people that feel that I have something to offer. And sometimes people have helped me, offered me good advice, etc. (e.g., Saydrah, thenewgreen, mk, b_b, lil, etc.). It really isn't something that can be manufactured, and that is why it is so valuable and fulfilling. So in the end, just be you and have fun on hubski. I'm not sure why I clicked "follow" but I'm happy you're apart of the community.
You have this many followers because of what you have done so far. You've provided lots of links to content that is interesting to many people. That is pretty much what your followers expect you to continue to do. I'd do that. One of the ideas that fuels Hubski is that a topic can become inundated by unwanted discussion, but a person will largely remain the same over time.
a lot of the people I follow I found by going to #programming, #philosophy, and other tags I'm interested in, and checking out if I wanted to follow people. I like this way of getting targeted news much better than subreddited reddit, more personal in a way.
#programming, #news, #technology...I liked your bio too. Robotics, programming, thinking. I won't claim to know how robots work, but I'm certainly interested in those kinds of things. You're open-minded and like discussion. I wouldn't describe myself as particularly interesting or follow-worthy, but I have a healthy amount of followers (10) in just 20 days.
