People always take these kinds of atrocities and use them to push their agendas. I hope with this crime we can avoid that and just realize that this is an unstable individual that needs to learn better, while still keeping her away from people. It's sad and sickening on a number of levels.
I watched the surveillance video and cannot for the life of me figure out how someone could recognize a person from that video. That said... this is so unbelievable horrifying. I lived in NYC for 4 years and it was always an irrational fear of mine that I would slip and fall into the tracks or someone would bump me and I'd go flying. The fact that it was because of such an irrational, unjustifiable hate is just disgusting.after someone who had seen the video on television spotted her on a Brooklyn street and called 911
That is just despicable.“I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they put down the twin towers I’ve been beating them up.” Ms. Menendez conflated the Muslim and Hindu faiths in her comments to the police and in her target for attack, officials said.
It seems that the woman doesn't even know anything about the religions. I also wonder how many other people she has "beat up." Awful.
What do you think causes this sort of insensitivity and lack of understanding?
Which is a frightening thing. People get hurt (mentally and physically) and will always continue to get hurt. It's a scary thing to think that there are people out there who can't handle that emotion and lash out the the extent of murdering a fellow human.
Well, we don't know that's what happened here.
As Raxyn13 said, she said she did it because she hates Muslims and was hurt after 9-11.
Right. But I tend not to trust the words of someone who would push someone else in front of a subway. Not at face value.
Haha, well, you might have a point. I'm not disagreeing with you. There's definitely something wrong with anyone who would push another in front of a train.
Or is she sane for knowing exactly why she did it?
If she's mentally stable then it's clearly violence fueled by ignorance. In which case she deserves a very lengthy sentence.
