Hello fellow Hubskinites!
Wanted to plop on here to share my two most recent oil paintings:
oil on canvas
This painting was a complete improvisation. I went into it wanting to let my intuition guide the way and am very happy with the results.
I have archival prints of "Of Elsewhere" available, they're ~20x43" (51x109cm), lemme know if you want one!
oil on canvas
This painting was a really fun process. I had been studying the work of my all time favorite artist, Kandinsky, and learned that even for his most obscure abstract pieces he'd create studies to map out shapes and colors. I decided to follow suit.
Here's the original sketch, about 4x4" (10x10cm). You can see that the main idea here is to block out the largest forms, indicating the overall flow of the shapes.
After this, I moved to a 12x12" (30x30cm) gouache study where I elaborated on the design and made my general color decisions. This study is the first time I used a ruling pen. These are tools that were popular for creating drafts and allow incredibly sharp and straight lines. I tried super hard to get it to work with oil on the final piece, but I couldn't get the viscosity right. Eventually with the final version I simply used a flat brush and t ruler to get the lines as they needed to be.
Thanks for taking the time to check these out, I'd love to hear response/feedback of any sort.
Also lemme know if you want a print of "Of Elsewhere," there are only ten total available :)
