These started showing up in my night sky app recently too. There was concern after the first 60 were launched and it looks like we're up to over 1000 of these things up there, with a total of 12,000 planned. And SpaceX isn't even the only company planning to do something like this.
Musk has stated that he has asked the starlink team to look into albedo reduction, but I wonder if it will help much.
Here is a map of approximately all satellites orbiting earth currently.
I regret clicking on the "Junk" button. In reference to applewood's comment, build a spacecraft that will collect and return space junk, use bits of space junk to make art or sell it. People will buy anything. I am imagining little kids coming home from a fair but instead of a goldfish in a plastic baggie, they are toting plastic baggies of space junk. Bonus points if you can make 'em float.
Step One) Create a business venture launching a bunch of satellites into the sky Step Two) . . . Step Three) Profit? Step Four) Realize these satellites will create more space junk and start a new business venture to get rid of them Step Five) . . . Step Six) Profit again?
There is an anime that is the exact premise you laid out called "Planetes (2003–2004)". Highly recommend it since the science and the development of near future space exploration is somewhat realistic. Funny enough its space junk that encouraged me to sign up for hubski after lurking for 2+ years ha!
