I was just thinking about the Hipsters on foodstamps article the other day. Someone was telling me about how certain supermarkets near me would actually steam shrimp and cook certain seafood for you. they finished by saying, "you know, they say you can't get hot food on foodstamps? But see, it's not true." It was one of those moments where you realize the person talking to you is telling you maybe way more than they think they are.
The horrible thing is that the act of steaming the shrimp might make it ineligible for EBT. When I was working at 7-11 we told people to buy the bagel dog and then nuke it... Because "groceries" (EBT eligible) are not taxed in WA state but "foods ready to eat" (EBT ineligible) are. Probably varies from state to state but those were our rules. We all knew how stupid it was but you know those welfare queens with their fancy hot bagel dogs.
