I've been interested in learning Python here and there, but can never really find an underlying project. Have GUI libraries gotten better? I remember trying to use Qt with it, but that it was a huge pain in the ass.

Nah, that's a fair point, and those things are definitely where I've struggled when playing with GUI development in the past. I actually looked seriously at electron, but the documentation is absolute crap: their "hello world" program does not run.
