Stumbled across this post and I'm curious, how's it going with the sleep and more importantly your quest for higher learning? Hope the college apps went well!

New school year started this past week, and I am definitely getting a lot of sleep now. My schedule is really light and I have nothing to do so I just sleep most of the time... BUT it should be getting more time consuming here pretty soon here because I hope to pick up a research project and start doing some work for the study abroad office. Yay involvement!

"involvement" is good. You know what they say, "Idle time is the devil's playground"... or something like that. Then again, it always seems like the devil is the one having all the fun, right? Good luck with the research project and with school. I always liked having a light schedule in college, it made it feel more like "college" and less like "work". Gave me time to stop and smell the beer drenched roses. Cheers!

Yeah I really hope this research project works out. I've been hunting down this professor trying to force him to schedule a meeting with me for like two weeks. I'm meeting with him soon and we'll see what happens.

Good luck. Nothing convinces someone to want to help/work with another person like passion/excitement. Care to share the topic or discipline?

It's a biochemistry project having to do with bioremediation. The professor just had a grant approved that has funds for an undergrad (me!) which is awesome because scrounging for funds is never fun. I'd also get to go abroad and work on the research in India some.

That sounds like a great experience. India is near the top of the list of places I'd like to travel to, Varanasi in particular. Bioremediation seems like an exciting and important field from the little I know about it. Very cool, go get it tunicsnatcher!

828 days later into working in this lab - if I could go back I'd tell myself to join a different one! but I did end up going to India for a little while, which was a lot of fun. All in all, there are lots of things to be learned from working under insufferable advisors.

(Every few months I remember my hubski account and wonder what my password was, but today I remembered)

First of all, I'm glad you remembered your password! Welcome back. I'm sorry to hear that your advisers are horrible, but you are right there is something to be learned from such things. I'm glad you were able to visit India, what was it you enjoyed about it? For me, I envision eating like a madman. I love Indian food.

Yep! Ate everything in sight. A hefty per diem made sure of that. It was also fun trying to pick up some Hindi (I was in Delhi mostly). It's great going places where people are so excited for you to be learning their language, and willing to help. It's too bad that the US isn't more like that towards non-native English speakers.

Thanks! I'm trying!
