I suspect much of the American people, the ones who voted for our current administration, are not interested in efforts to develop and build out such cities. What I suspect they'd have to say is along the lines of: So no, even if this got past any of the feasibility/moral roadblocks it faces, I don't think the core political support would be there.Why dump money and effort into blatantly violating the sovereignty of other nations for our own profit when we have so much land inside the US already? We voted you in to make this America great again, not to continue to neglect the heartland!
