No way in hell is this better lo-fi. Their whole damn style is bombastic flow with drops into deconstructed beats before returning to huge bass. Take that away and he's literally talking about holding a rabbit hostage. Which I dig, because fuck that rabbit, but this is a lot of party rock. There's really deep RTJ songs, but their songs definitely benefit from their loud environment. It just goes together. Stay Gold is the song I played for a girl last. Because I got a bad girl I got a brain-with-an-ass girl She got a mean bop I got a lean to the way I walk And I get it like gold
I'm with you. Saw Mike and El live in Royal Oak last year and their energy NEEDS big fucking speakers, powerful bass, people smoking spliffs and moshing. Just the same, I'm glad to see them getting more publicity, for Mike's political activism if for nothing else.
Mm, disagree. One of the best parts of listening to RTJ is when you realize how fucking ridiculous their lyrics are-- and they still sound badass. One of my fav moments in the Tiny Desk is El looking kind of embarrassed by the thought of spilling kids on NPR's couch.
