To counterbalance:

An insurance agent once told me that 85% of new bikes are dropped within a month, 60% of new bikes are totaled within a year and there are far more people who "have ridden" than people who "are riding."

I've talked to three people that simply didn't change their oil. They didn't ride their bikes enough for it to matter. I talked to another dude who put 25k on a CBR without ever adjusting valve lash because he figured it was too hard and if it started why bother?

Solid caveat.

If you are still riding at the 18-month or 1700-mile mark, then you "are a motorcyclist", not "someone who has ridden a motorcycle."

An important distinction, for sure, my friend.
