The House of Representatives in the US is going to vote on some much-needed gun legislation next week, that is supposed to ensure suspected terrorists can't legally obtain guns.
They are simply going to say that anyone on the No Fly List is not allowed to (legally) buy a gun. And magically we will all be safe.
The No-Fly List is moronic in both design and execution. It is definitely unconstitutional.
And it is a bad idea to attach an extra-legal process of questionable constitutionality to something as important as gun regulation, as it locks in the No Fly List as a "useful tool" as opposed to its actual function as "utterly useless and pointless."
It's like making a turkey out of tofu: It is a bad idea that just gets worse as you build upon it.
Damnit. I want logical and reasonable gun regulation in my country. I wish someone had the balls to do it, and stop kowtowing to the NRA. Sheesh.
Not that I disagree with you on the underlying point, and I realize that tofurkey gets a lot of hate as a symbol of vegans trying to co-opt Thanksgiving, but I'm not seeing the analogy. It's like making a turkey out of tofu: It is a bad idea that just gets worse as you build upon it.
Yeah... it's a stretch, but... Turkey = Good Tofu = Good Trying to make a turkey out of tofu is wrong-headed, and ruins both ideas. No Fly List = Bad Gun Control = Good Combining the two legitimizes the bad one (the No Fly List) and sets it in stone, while doing literally nothing good for the Good idea (Gun Control). There's a parallel there, right? Right? Hello...? Bueller...? (is this thing on?) ...but I'm not seeing the analogy.
